Kun israelilaiset lähettivät hänet viemään veroa Eglonille, Mooabin kuninkaalle, 16niin Eehud teki itsellensä kaksiteräisen miekan, jalan pituisen, ja sitoi sen takkinsa alle oikealle kupeelleen. 17Ja hän toi veron Eglonille, Mooabin kuninkaalle. Mutta Eglon oli hyvin lihava mies. 18Kun hän oli saanut tuoduksi veron, saattoi hän väen, joka oli verolahjoja kantanut, matkalle. 19Mutta itse hän kääntyi takaisin Gilgalin luona olevilta jumalankuvilta ja käski sanoa: "Minulla on salaista asiaa sinulle, kuningas". Silloin hän nousi istuimeltaan, 21mutta Eehud ojensi vasemman kätensä ja tempasi miekan oikealta kupeeltaan ja pisti sen hänen vatsaansa, 22niin että kahvakin meni sisään terän mukana ja terä upposi kokonaan ihraan, sillä hän ei vetänyt ulos miekkaa hänen vatsastaan. Sitten hän meni ulos laakealle katolle. 23Kun Eehud oli tullut pylväskäytävään, sulki hän yläsalin ovet jälkeensä ja lukitsi ne. 24Hänen mentyään tulivat kuninkaan palvelijat, ja kun he näkivät, että yläsalin ovet olivat lukitut, niin he ajattelivat: "Varmaankin hän on tarpeellaan viileässä kammiossa". 25Sitten he odottivat kyllästyksiin asti, mutta kun hän ei sittenkään avannut yläsalin ovia, ottivat he avaimen ja avasivat itse. Ja katso, heidän herransa makasi kuolleena lattialla. 26Mutta Eehud oli paennut heidän vitkastellessaan; hän oli jo päässyt jumalankuvien ohi ja pakeni Seiraan. 27Ja sinne tultuaan hän puhalsi pasunaan Efraimin vuoristossa. Silloin israelilaiset laskeutuivat hänen kanssaan vuoristosta, ja hän heidän etunenässään. 28Ja hän sanoi heille: "Seuratkaa minua, sillä Herra antaa teidän vihollisenne, mooabilaiset, teidän käsiinne". Silloin he laskeutuivat hänen jäljessään alas, valtasivat mooabilaisten tieltä Jordanin kahlauspaikat eivätkä päästäneet ketään yli. 29Ja he voittivat silloin Mooabin, lähes kymmenen tuhatta miestä, kaikki voimakkaita ja sotakuntoisia miehiä; eikä ainoakaan päässyt pakoon. 30Niin täytyi Mooabin silloin nöyrtyä Israelin käden alle. Ja maassa oli rauha kahdeksankymmentä vuotta. 31Hänen jälkeensä tuli Samgar, Anatin poika. Hän surmasi filistealaisia kuusisataa miestä häränpistimellä; hänkin vapautti Israelin.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
