A-hi Đánh Bại Ít-ra-ên
1Người Ít-ra-ên mang tội bất trung với Chúa Hằng Hữu, vì có người phạm luật liên hệ đến các vật phải bị tiêu hủy. Người ấy là A-can, con trai Cát-mi, cháu Xáp-đi, chắt Xê-rách, thuộc đại tộc Giu-đa; hắn đã lấy một vài thứ trong thành Giê-ri-cô. Vì thế Chúa Hằng Hữu giận Ít-ra-ên lắm. 2Từ Giê-ri-cô, Giô-suê sai người đi do thám thành A-hi. Thành này gần Bết-a-ven, về phía đông Bê-tên. 3Đi A-hi về, các thám tử đề nghị với Giô-suê: “Ta chỉ cần gửi vài nghìn quân đi đánh A-hi là đủ. Không cần xuất toàn lực vì thành này nhỏ và ít dân.” 4Vậy, chừng 3.000 quân ra đi, nhưng họ bị đánh bại và phải bỏ chạy trốn người A-hi. 5Người A-hi đánh đuổi họ từ cổng thành đến tận Sê-ba-rim, tấn công lúc xuống đồi và giết chừng ba mươi sáu người. Lòng người Ít-ra-ên tan ra như nước. 6Giô-suê và các trưởng lão Ít-ra-ên xé áo mình, bốc bụi đất bỏ lên đầu, quỳ sấp mặt xuống đất trước Hòm Giao Ước của Chúa Hằng Hữu cho đến tối. 7Giô-suê thưa: “Đức Chúa Trời Hằng Hữu ôi! Ngài đem chúng con qua sông Giô-đan làm gì? Để cho người A-mô-rít tiêu diệt chúng con sao? Nếu thế, chúng con thà ở lại bên kia sông cho xong. 8Chúa Hằng Hữu ôi! Khi Ít-ra-ên phải quay lưng chạy trốn quân địch, con còn nói gì được nữa? 9Người Ca-na-an và các dân địa phương khác khi nghe tin này, sẽ kéo đến bao vây và xóa tên Ít-ra-ên khỏi lịch sử nhân loại. Còn Danh cao cả của Chúa thì sao?” 10Chúa Hằng Hữu phán bảo Giô-suê: “Đứng lên! Tại sao con sấp mình xuống đất như vậy? 11Ít-ra-ên có tội. Họ đã không tuân lệnh Ta, lấy trộm vật đáng bị hủy diệt, dối trá đem giấu trong trại. 12Vì lý do đó, Ít-ra-ên bị bại trận. Họ bị quân thù đuổi chạy vì đã phạm luật về các vật phải hủy diệt. Nếu các vật ấy không đem ra tiêu hủy, Ta sẽ không ở cùng Ít-ra-ên nữa. 13Con đứng lên! Hãy bảo dân chúng phải dọn mình thánh sạch, vì Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên phán: ‘Trong dân chúng, có người đang giấu vật đáng hủy diệt. Ít-ra-ên sẽ không cự nổi địch quân nếu không loại trừ các vật ấy. 14Sáng ngày mai, các đại tộc sẽ được gọi đến trước Chúa. Đại tộc nào bị Chúa Hằng Hữu chỉ ra, các họ trong đại tộc ấy phải được gọi đến. Họ nào bị Chúa Hằng Hữu chỉ ra, các gia đình thuộc họ ấy phải được gọi đến. Gia đình nào bị Ngài chỉ ra, những người trong gia đình ấy phải được gọi đến. 15Người bị chỉ ra là người đã trộm của đáng bị hủy diệt, sẽ bị hỏa thiêu chung với tất cả những gì thuộc về người ấy, vì đã vi phạm giao ước Chúa Hằng Hữu và làm điều xấu xa, nhơ nhuốc cho Ít-ra-ên.’”Tội của A-can
16Ngày hôm sau, Giô-suê dậy sớm, gọi các đại tộc đến ra mắt Chúa Hằng Hữu. Đại tộc Giu-đa bị chỉ ra. 17Giô-suê gọi các họ thuộc đại tộc Giu-đa đến, họ Xê-rách bị chỉ ra. Ông gọi các gia đình thuộc họ Xê-rách đến, gia đình Xáp-đi bị chỉ ra. 18Ông gọi những người trong gia đình Xáp-đi đến, A-can, con Cát-mi, cháu Xáp-đi, chắt Xê-rách, đại tộc Giu-đa, bị chỉ ra. 19Giô-suê nói với A-can: “Con hãy tôn cao Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên, ngợi khen Ngài và thú tội đi. Đừng giấu giếm gì cả, hãy khai ra mọi điều con đã làm.” 20A-can thú nhận: “Thưa đúng, con đã phạm tội với Chúa Hằng Hữu, Đức Chúa Trời của Ít-ra-ên và đây là việc con đã làm. 21Con đã sinh lòng tham khi thấy chiếc áo choàng lộng lẫy hàng Ba-by-lôn, 2,3 ký ▼▼ Nt 200 siếc-lơ
bạc, và một thỏi vàng nặng chừng 570 gam. ▼▼ Nt 50 siếc-lơ
Con lấy các vật ấy đem giấu dưới đất trong trại, bạc để dưới cùng.” 22Giô-suê liền sai mấy người đến trại A-can. Họ tìm thấy các vật chôn trong trại, bạc ở dưới cùng. 23Họ đem tất cả về đặt dưới đất trước mặt Giô-suê và mọi người, có Chúa Hằng Hữu chứng giám. 24Giô-suê và mọi người có mặt tại đó bắt A-can, con Xê-rách dẫn đến thung lũng A-cô. Họ cũng đem theo bạc, áo choàng, vàng, con trai, con gái của A-can, cùng với bò, lừa, chiên, trại, và tất cả những gì thuộc về A-can. 25Giô-suê nói: “Vì sao con gây họa cho Ít-ra-ên, Chúa Hằng Hữu sẽ giáng họa cho con hôm nay.” Mọi người lấy đá ném, lấy lửa đốt A-can và tất cả những gì thuộc về hắn. 26Sau đó, họ lấy đá chất thành một đống lớn trên người và vật vừa bị hỏa thiêu. How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
