1ในปีที่สิบห้าแห่งรัชกาลทิเบริอัสซีซาร์ ขณะนั้นปอนทิอัสปีลาตเป็นผู้ว่าการแคว้นยูเดีย เฮโรดครองแคว้นกาลิลี ส่วนฟีลิปน้องชายของเฮโรดครองแคว้นอิทูเรียและตราโคนิติส ลีซาเนียสครองแคว้นอาบีเลน 2ในสมัยที่อันนาสกับคายาฟาสเป็นมหาปุโรหิต พระวจนะของพระเจ้าก็ได้มาถึงยอห์นบุตรเศคาริยาห์ในถิ่นกันดาร 3เขาไปทั่วแถบลุ่มแม่น้ำจอร์แดน ประกาศบัพติศมาแห่งการกลับใจใหม่เพื่อรับการอภัยบาป 4ดังที่เขียนไว้ในหนังสือของผู้เผยพระวจนะอิสยาห์ว่า“เสียงของผู้หนึ่งร้องในถิ่นกันดารว่า
‘จงเตรียมทางสำหรับองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้า
จงทำทางสำหรับพระองค์ให้ตรงไป
5หุบเขาทุกแห่งจะถูกถมให้เต็ม
ภูเขาและเนินเขาทุกแห่งจะถูกทำให้ต่ำลง
ทางคดเคี้ยวจะกลายเป็นทางตรง
ทางขรุขระจะกลับราบเรียบ
6และมวลมนุษยชาติจะเห็นความรอดของพระเจ้า’ ” a
7ยอห์นกล่าวกับฝูงชนที่มารับบัพติศมาจากเขาว่า “เจ้าชาติงูร้าย! ใครตักเตือนพวกเจ้าให้หนีจากพระพิโรธที่จะมาถึง? 8จงเกิดผลให้สมกับที่กลับใจใหม่และอย่านึกว่า ‘พวกเรามีอับราฮัมเป็นบรรพบุรุษ’ เพราะเราบอกท่านว่าพระเจ้าทรงสามารถทำให้ลูกหลานของอับราฮัมเกิดจากก้อนหินเหล่านี้ได้ 9ขวานนั้นอยู่ที่โคนต้นไม้แล้วและทุกต้นที่ไม่ให้ผลดีจะถูกโค่นและโยนลงในไฟ”
10ประชาชนถามว่า “ถ้าเช่นนั้นเราควรทำอย่างไร?”
11ยอห์นตอบว่า “ผู้ที่มีเสื้อสองตัวจงแบ่งให้ผู้ที่ไม่มีและคนที่มีอาหารก็ควรแบ่งปันเช่นกัน”
12คนเก็บภาษีมาขอรับบัพติศมาด้วย พวกเขาถามว่า “ท่านอาจารย์ เราควรทำอย่างไร?”
13เขาตอบว่า “อย่าเก็บภาษีเกินพิกัด”
14แล้วพวกทหารก็มาถามด้วยว่า “และเราควรทำอย่างไร?”
เขาตอบว่า “อย่าข่มขู่เอาเงินและอย่าใส่ร้ายใคร จงพอใจกับค่าจ้างของตน”
15ประชาชนกำลังใจจดใจจ่อรอคอยและทุกคนล้วนสงสัยว่าเป็นไปได้หรือไม่ที่ยอห์นจะเป็นพระคริสต์ ▼

16ยอห์นตอบพวกเขาทั้งหมดว่า “เราให้ท่านรับบัพติศมาด้วย ▼▼หรือใน

21เมื่อคนทั้งหลายกำลังรับบัพติศมาอยู่ พระเยซูก็ทรงรับบัพติศมาด้วย ขณะที่พระองค์ทรงอธิษฐาน ท้องฟ้าก็เปิดออก 22และพระวิญญาณบริสุทธิ์ในรูปลักษณ์เหมือนนกพิราบเสด็จลงมาประทับเหนือพระองค์และมีพระสุรเสียงจากฟ้าสวรรค์ว่า “เจ้าคือลูกของเรา ผู้ที่เรารัก เราพอใจเจ้ายิ่งนัก”23พระเยซูทรงเริ่มพระราชกิจเมื่อมีพระชนมายุราวสามสิบพรรษา เป็นที่เข้าใจกันว่าพระองค์ทรงเป็นบุตรของโยเซฟ

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
