แซมสันกับเดลิลาห์
1วันหนึ่งแซมสันไปที่กาซาและพบหญิงโสเภณีคนหนึ่งที่นั่น เขาจึงไปนอนกับนาง 2เมื่อชาวเมืองกาซาได้ยินว่า “แซมสันอยู่ที่นี่!” พวกเขาจึงล้อมที่แห่งนั้นไว้และซุ่มอยู่ที่ประตูเมืองตลอดคืน พวกเขาคบคิดกันเงียบๆ ว่า “พอฟ้าสาง เราจะฆ่าเขา”3แต่แซมสันนอนอยู่ที่นั่นจนถึงเที่ยงคืน แล้วลุกขึ้นออกไปที่ประตูเมือง ยกประตูเมืองขึ้นมา ดึงเสาประตูทั้งสองข้างพร้อมทั้งดาลประตูหลุดลอยจากพื้น แล้วแบกประตูไปจนถึงยอดเนินเขาที่หันหน้าไปทางเฮโบรน
4ต่อมาแซมสันหลงรักสาวคนหนึ่งชื่อเดลิลาห์ ซึ่งอาศัยอยู่ที่หุบเขาโสเรก 5เหล่าเจ้านายฟีลิสเตียไปพบหญิงนั้นและบอกนางว่า “เจ้าจงล้วงความลับของแซมสันว่ากำลังอันมหาศาลของเขามาจากไหน และทำอย่างไรพวกเราจึงจะสามารถปราบและจับกุมตัวเขาไว้ได้ แล้วพวกเราแต่ละคนจะให้เงินหนัก 1,100 เชเขล ▼
▼1 เชเขล คือเงินหนักประมาณ 11.5 กรัม มีค่าเท่ากับค่าแรงสองเดือน
แก่เจ้า” 6ดังนั้นเดลิลาห์จึงกล่าวกับแซมสันว่า “โปรดบอกความลับที่ทำให้ท่านมีพลังมหาศาลอย่างนี้ ทำอย่างไรจึงจะมัดและคุมตัวท่านไว้ได้”
7แซมสันตอบว่า “ถ้าใช้สายธนูที่หนังยังไม่แห้งเจ็ดเส้นมัดตัวข้า ข้าก็จะอ่อนแอเหมือนคนอื่น”
8ฉะนั้นเจ้านายฟีลิสเตียจึงเอาสายธนูที่หนังยังไม่แห้งเจ็ดเส้นมาให้เดลิลาห์ นางก็เอาสายธนูมัดแซมสัน 9เดลิลาห์ให้คนซุ่มอยู่ในอีกห้องหนึ่ง แล้วนางก็ร้องว่า “แซมสัน พวกฟีลิสเตียมาจับท่านแล้ว!” แซมสันก็สะบัดสายธนูขาดอย่างง่ายดายเหมือนเชือกที่ถูกไฟลน ดังนั้นความลับของเขาเรื่องพละกำลังจึงยังไม่ถูกเปิดเผย
10แล้วเดลิลาห์กล่าวกับแซมสันว่า “ท่านโกหกหลอกลวงฉัน โปรดบอกฉันมาเดี๋ยวนี้ว่าจะจับท่านมัดไว้ได้อย่างไร”
11แซมสันกล่าวว่า “ถ้าใช้เชือกใหม่ที่ไม่เคยใช้งานมาก่อนมัดข้าอย่างแน่นหนา ข้าก็จะอ่อนแอเหมือนชายอื่น”
12ฉะนั้นเดลิลาห์จึงเอาเชือกใหม่มามัดเขาไว้ แล้วให้คนซุ่มอยู่ในอีกห้องหนึ่งเหมือนครั้งก่อน เดลิลาห์ร้องว่า “แซมสัน พวกฟีลิสเตียมาจับท่านแล้ว!” แต่แซมสันก็สะบัดเชือกออกจากแขนอย่างง่ายดายเหมือนเส้นด้าย
13เดลิลาห์กล่าวว่า “จนถึงเดี๋ยวนี้ท่านยังโกหกหลอกลวงฉัน จงบอกมาว่าจะมัดท่านไว้ได้อย่างไร”
แซมสันตอบว่า “หากทอเส้นผมทั้งเจ็ดปอยของข้าเข้าไปในหูกทอผ้า แล้วกระทกด้วยฟืม ข้าก็จะอ่อนแอเหมือนชายอื่น” ฉะนั้นเมื่อแซมสันนอนหลับ เดลิลาห์ก็ทอผมทั้งเจ็ดปอยของเขาเข้าในหูก 14แล้วกระทกด้วยฟืม
นางร้องบอกเขาอีกครั้งว่า “แซมสัน พวกฟีลิสเตียมาจับท่านแล้ว!” แซมสันก็ลุกขึ้นดึงผมออก ทำให้หูกทอผ้าเสียหาย
15แล้วเดลิลาห์ตัดพ้อว่า “ท่านพูดได้อย่างไรว่า ‘ข้ารักเจ้า’ ในเมื่อท่านไม่ไว้ใจฉันเลย? ท่านหลอกลวงฉันถึงสามครั้งแล้ว ยังไม่บอกความลับกับฉันเสียทีว่าอะไรทำให้ท่านมีเรี่ยวแรงมากถึงขนาดนี้” 16นางพิรี้พิไรกับแซมสันทุกวันจนเขาเหนื่อยหน่ายเหลือทน
17เขาจึงบอกนางทุกอย่างว่า “ข้าไม่เคยตัดผมเลย เพราะข้าเป็นนาศีร์ถวายแด่พระเจ้าตั้งแต่เกิด ถ้าหากโกนผมทิ้ง เรี่ยวแรงกำลังของข้าก็จะหมดไป ข้าจะอ่อนแอเหมือนคนอื่นๆ”
18เมื่อเดลิลาห์เห็นว่าเขาได้บอกความลับทั้งหมดแก่นางแล้ว จึงส่งข่าวไปถึงเหล่าเจ้านายฟีลิสเตียว่า “โปรดมาอีกสักครั้ง เพราะเขาบอกทุกสิ่งทุกอย่างแก่ฉันแล้ว” ดังนั้นพวกเจ้านายฟีลิสเตียจึงกลับมา พร้อมนำเงินติดตัวมาด้วย 19เดลิลาห์ให้แซมสันนอนหลับหนุนตักนาง แล้วให้คนมาโกนผมแซมสันหมดทั้งเจ็ดปอย ทำให้เรี่ยวแรงของแซมสันถดถอยลง แล้วกำลังของเขาก็หมดไป
20แล้วนางร้องว่า “แซมสัน พวกฟีลิสเตียมาจับตัวท่านแล้ว!”
แซมสันก็ตื่นขึ้น และคิดว่า “เราจะสะบัดตัวหลุดรอดไปเหมือนครั้งก่อนๆ” แต่เขาไม่รู้ว่าองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าทรงทิ้งเขาไปเสียแล้ว
21จากนั้นชาวฟีลิสเตียจึงจับตัวแซมสัน ควักตาทั้งสองข้างของเขาออกและนำตัวเขาไปยังกาซา ล่ามเขาด้วยโซ่ทองสัมฤทธิ์และให้โม่ข้าวอยู่ในเรือนจำ 22แต่ไม่นานผมของแซมสันก็เริ่มยาวอีก

ขณะที่แซมสันถูกนำมายืนอยู่ท่ามกลางหมู่เสา 26เขาบอกคนรับใช้ที่จูงมือตนมาว่า “พาเราไปตรงที่จะคลำพบเสารองรับวิหาร เพื่อเราจะได้พิงเสา” 27ขณะนั้นภายในวิหารคลาคล่ำไปด้วยฝูงชนทั้งชายและหญิง เจ้านายฟีลิสเตียทั้งปวงก็อยู่ที่นั่นด้วย และบนดาดฟ้ามีชายหญิงประมาณสามพันคนเฝ้าดูแซมสันแสดงอยู่ 28แซมสันจึงอธิษฐานต่อองค์พระผู้เป็นเจ้าว่า “ข้าแต่พระยาห์เวห์องค์เจ้าชีวิต ขอทรงระลึกถึงข้าพระองค์ ข้าแต่พระเจ้าโปรดให้พละกำลังแก่ข้าพระองค์อีกครั้งเดียว เพื่อข้าพระองค์จะได้แก้แค้นชาวฟีลิสเตียชดเชยกับที่ต้องสูญเสียดวงตาทั้งสองข้างไป” 29จากนั้นแซมสันก็ไปที่เสาสองต้นกลางวิหารซึ่งเป็นเสารองรับวิหาร มือขวายันเสาข้างหนึ่ง มือซ้ายยันเสาอีกข้างหนึ่ง แล้วรวบรวมกำลังดันเสา 30แซมสันกล่าวว่า “เราขอตายพร้อมพวกฟีลิสเตีย!” แล้วเขาก็ดันเสาสุดแรง วิหารพังครืนลงมาทับเจ้านายฟีลิสเตียและประชากรทั้งหมดในนั้น เป็นอันว่าขณะที่แซมสันกำลังจะตาย เขาได้ฆ่าชาวฟีลิสเตียมากยิ่งกว่าตอนที่เขายังมีชีวิตอยู่

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
