Ang Pagkakaibigan ni David at Jonatan
1Matapos makipag-usap ni David kay Saul, nakilala niya ang anak nitong si Jonatan. Naging matalik silang magkaibigan at mahal na mahal ni Jonatan si David gaya ng pagmamahal niya sa kanyang sarili. 2Mula noon, hindi na pinauwi ni Saul si David sa kanilang bahay. 3Sumumpa si Jonatan kay David na magiging magkaibigan sila sa habang panahon dahil mahal niya si David gaya ng kanyang sarili. 4At bilang patunay ng kanyang pangako, hinubad niya ang kanyang balabal at ibinigay kay David, kasama ang kanyang pamigkis, espada, pana at sinturon.5Napagtagumpayan ni David ang lahat ng ipinagawa sa kanya ni Saul, kaya siyaʼy ginawa nitong pinuno ng buong hukbo. Nagustuhan ito ng mga mamamayan pati na rin ng mga opisyal ni Saul.
Nainggit si Saul kay David
6Nang pauwi na ang mga Israelita matapos mapatay ni David si Goliat, sinalubong si Saul ng mga babaeng mula sa lahat ng bayan ng Israel. Sumasayaw sila at umaawit na may tamburin at alpa. 7Ganito ang kanilang awit:“Libu-libo ang napatay ni Saul, kay David naman ay tig-sasampung libo.” 8Nagalit si Saul nang mapakinggan niya ang awit nila. Naisip niya, “Sinasabi nilang tig-sasampung libo ang napatay ni David, pero ang sa akin ay libu-libo lang. Kulang na lang ay siya ang kilalanin nilang hari.” 9Mula noon, binantayan na niyang mabuti si David dahil nagseselos siya rito.
10– 11Kinabukasan, pinasukan si Saul ng masamang espiritu na ipinadala ng Dios, at umasta siya na parang baliw sa loob ng kanilang bahay. Tumutugtog si David ng alpa gaya ng ginagawa niya bawat araw. May hawak noon na sibat si Saul, at dalawang beses niyang sinibat si David. Ang balak niyaʼy itusok si David sa dingding, pero nakailag si David at nakatakas. 12Natatakot si Saul kay David dahil sinasamahan ito ng Panginoon samantalang siya namaʼy pinabayaan na ng Panginoon. 13Kaya para malayo sa kanya si David, ginawa niya itong kumander ng 1,000 sundalo, at pinamunuan ito ni David nang buong lakas sa digmaan.
14Nagtagumpay si David sa lahat ng ginagawa niya dahil kasama niya ang Panginoon. 15Nang malaman ni Saul kung gaano katagumpay si David, lalo pa siyang natakot. 16Pero lalo namang napamahal ang buong Israel at Juda kay David, dahil pinamumunuan niya sila sa mga labanan.
17Isang araw, sinabi ni Saul kay David, “Handa akong ibigay sa iyo ang panganay kong anak na si Merab bilang asawa mo, pero kailangan mo munang patunayan sa akin na isa kang matapang na mandirigma sa pamamagitan ng pakikipaglaban para sa Panginoon.” At sinabi ni Saul sa sarili niya, “Sa pamamagitan nito ay mapapatay si David ng mga Filisteo at hindi na kailangang ako pa ang pumatay sa kanya.”
18Pero sinabi ni David kay Saul, “Sino po ba ako at ang aking pamilya para maging manugang ng hari?”
19Nang dumating ang araw na ikakasal na si Merab kay David, ipinakasal na lang ni Saul si Merab kay Adriel na taga-Mehola.
20Samantala, ang isa pang anak na babae ni Saul na si Mical ay nagkagusto kay David. Nang malaman ito ni Saul, natuwa siya. 21Sinabi ni Saul sa kanyang sarili, “Ipakakasal ko si Mical kay David, at gagawin ko siyang pain para mapatay ng mga Filisteo si David.” Kaya sinabi niya kay David, “May pagkakataon ka pa para maging manugang ko.”
22Kinasabwat din ni Saul ang kanyang mga lingkod na makipag-usap nang lihim kay David at sabihin sa kanya, “Talagang gusto ka ng hari pati na rin ng kanyang mga lingkod. Kaya pumayag ka nang maging manugang niya.” 23Nang sinabi nila ito kay David, sumagot siya, “Hindi ko makakayang magbayad sa hari para mapangasawa ko ang kanyang anak. Mahirap lang ako at galing sa isang hindi kilalang pamilya.”
24Nang ibalita nila ito kay Saul, 25sinabi ni Saul, “Sabihin ninyo kay David na ang hinihingi ko lang na bayad sa pagpapakasal sa aking anak ay 100 balat ng pinagtulian ng mga Filisteo bilang paghihiganti sa aking mga kalaban.” Pero ang plano ni Saul ay mahulog si David sa kamay ng mga Filisteo.
26Nang sabihin ito ng mga lingkod ni Saul kay David, natuwa siya dahil gusto niyang maging manugang ng hari. Kaya bago pa sumapit ang itinakdang araw, 27sinalakay ni David at ng mga tauhan niya ang mga Filisteo at napatay nila ang 200 sa mga ito. Pagkatapos, kinuha nila ang mga balat ng pinagtulian ng mga Filisteo at dinala ang lahat ng ito sa hari. Kaya ibinigay ni Saul si Mical kay David para maging asawa niya.
28Nang malaman ni Saul na pinapatnubayan ng Panginoon si David at nakita niya kung gaano kamahal ni Mical si David, 29lalo pa siyang natakot kay David. At itinuring niyang kaaway si David habang nabubuhay siya. 30Nagpatuloy ang labanan sa pagitan ng mga Israelita at mga Filisteo. Bawat labanan, mas nagiging matagumpay si David kaysa sa lahat ng opisyal ng hari. Kaya lalong nakilala ang pangalan ni David sa buong bayan.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
