Piniling Maging Hari si David
1 Nang panahong iyon, sinabi ng Panginoon kay Samuel, “Hanggang kailan ka magdadalamhati para kay Saul? Inayawan ko na siya bilang hari ng Israel. Ngayon, punuin mo ng langis ang iyong sisidlan na sungay, at pumunta ka kay Jesse sa Betlehem. Pinili ko ang isa sa mga anak niya na maging bagong hari.” 2Pero sinabi ni Samuel, “Paano ako makakapunta roon? Kapag nalaman ito ni Saul, tiyak na ipapapatay niya ako.” Sinabi ng Panginoon, “Magdala ka ng isang dumalagang baka sa Betlehem, at sabihin mo sa mga tao na pumunta ka roon para maghandog sa Panginoon. 3Imbitahin mo si Jesse na sumama sa paghahandog at tuturuan kita kung ano ang gagawin mo. Ituturo ko sa iyo ang anak niyang pinili ko para maging hari. At papahiran mo ng langis ang kanyang ulo.”4Sinunod ni Samuel ang iniutos ng Panginoon. Pagdating niya sa Betlehem, sinalubong siya ng mga tagapamahala ng bayan na nanginginig sa takot. Nagtanong sila, “Kapayapaan ba ang pakay mo sa pagpunta rito?” 5Sumagot si Samuel, “Oo, matiwasay akong pumunta rito para maghandog sa Panginoon. Maglinis kayo ng sarili ninyo sa pagharap sa kanya at sumama kayo sa akin sa paghahandog.” Pagkatapos, ginawa ni Samuel ang seremonya para linisin si Jesse at ang mga anak niya at inanyayahan din sila sa paghahandog.
6Pagdating nila, nakita ni Samuel si Eliab at naisip niya, “Siguradong siya na ang pinili ng Panginoon na maging hari.” 7Pero sinabi ng Panginoon kay Samuel, “Huwag mong tingnan ang tangkad at ang kakisigan niya dahil hindi siya ang pinili ko. Hindi ako tumitingin na gaya ng pagtingin ng tao. Ang taoʼy tumitingin sa panlabas na kaanyuan, ngunit ang tinitingnan koʼy ang puso.” 8Tinawag ni Jesse si Abinadab at pinapunta kay Samuel. Pero sinabi ni Samuel, “Hindi siya ang pinili ng Panginoon.” 9Pagkatapos, pinapunta ni Jesse si Shama kay Samuel, pero sinabi ni Samuel, “Hindi rin siya ang pinili ng Panginoon.” 10Pinapunta ni Jesse kay Samuel ang pito niyang mga anak na lalaki, pero sinabi ni Samuel sa kanya, “Wala ni isa man sa kanila ang pinili ng Panginoon.” 11Tinanong ni Samuel si Jesse, “Sila na bang lahat ang anak mo?” Sumagot si Jesse, “May isa pa, ang bunso, pero nagpapastol siya ng mga tupa.” Sinabi ni Samuel, “Ipasundo mo siya. Hindi tayo magpapatuloy sa ating gagawin hanggaʼt hindi siya dumarating.” 12Kaya ipinatawag ni Jesse si David at pinapunta sa kanila. Magandang lalaki siya, mamula-mula ang mukha at maganda ang mga mata. Pagkatapos, sinabi ng Panginoon, “Pahiran mo siya ng langis dahil siya ang pinili ko.” 13Kaya kinuha ni Samuel ang langis at pinahiran niya sa ulo si David sa harap ng kanyang mga kapatid. Simula nang araw na iyon, napuspos siya ng Espiritu ng Panginoon. At umuwi naman si Samuel sa Rama.
Naglingkod si David kay Saul
14Umalis kay Saul ang Espiritu ng Panginoon, at pinahirapan siya ng masamang espiritu na ipinadala ng Panginoon. 15Sinabi ng mga utusan ni Saul sa kanya, “Malinaw po na pinahihirapan kayo ng masamang espiritu na ipinadala ng Dios. 16Kaya kung papayag po kayo, hahanap kami ng marunong tumugtog ng alpa. At tuwing pahihirapan kayo ng masamang espiritu na ipinadala ng tutugtugan po niya kayo ng alpa at bubuti na ang pakiramdam ninyo.” 17Sinabi ni Saul sa kanyang mga utusan, “Sige, humanap kayo ng taong marunong tumugtog ng alpa at dalhin nʼyo siya sa akin.” 18Sumagot ang isa sa kanyang mga utusan, “Nakita ko po na ang isa sa mga anak ni Jesse na taga-Betlehem ay magaling tumugtog ng alpa. Bukod pa roon, matapang po siya at mahusay makipaglaban, magandang lalaki, mahusay magsalita at sumasakanya ang Panginoon.”19Nagsugo si Saul ng mga mensahero kay Jesse para papuntahin sa kanya ang anak ni Jesse na si David na pastol ng mga tupa. 20Kaya pinapunta ni Jesse si David kay Saul na may dalang mga regalo: isang asno na may kargang tinapay, isang balat na sisidlan na puno ng katas ng ubas at isang batang kambing.
21Naglingkod si David kay Saul at nagustuhan siya ni Saul, kaya ginawa niyang tagapagdala ng armas si David. 22Pagkatapos, nagpadala ng mensahe si Saul kay Jesse na nagsasabi, “Hayaan mong manatili rito si David para maglingkod sa akin dahil natutuwa ako sa kanya.”
23Sa tuwing dumarating kay Saul ang masamang espiritu na ipinapadala ng Dios, tinutugtog ni David ang kanyang alpa. Pagkatapos, umaalis kay Saul ang masamang espiritu at bumubuti ang kanyang pakiramdam.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
