Zgled: Jezus Kristus
1Čeprav pa imamo čisto vest pred Gospodom v tem, kar delamo, ne smemo misliti samo nase. ▼▼V izvirniku: mi močni.
Moramo se ozirati na dvome in negotovost drugih. ▼▼V izvirniku: slabotnih.
2Vsak naj ravna tako, da bi njegov vzgled spodbujal bližnjega k dobremu in ga krepil v veri. ▼▼V izvirniku: Vsak izmed vas bodi bližnjemu po godu, v dobro, za njegov napredek.
3Tudi Kristus ni živel sam zase. O njem piše: “Ker zastopam tvojo stvar, me sramotijo tisti, ki sramotijo tebe.” ▼▼Psalm 69,10.
4Te besede, ki so zapisane pred davnim časom, naj bi nam bile v pouk, tako da bi potrpežljivost in ohrabritev pisma prebudili v nas upanje. 5Bog pa, ki nam daje vso tolažbo in ki nas hrabri, naj vam pomaga, da bi živeli v miru drug z drugim, kot je to pokazal tudi Jezus Kristus. 6Šele tedaj lahko vsi enoglasno častimo in slavimo Očeta našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa. 7Sprejemajte drug drugega na enak način, kot nas je sprejel Kristus, brez zadržkov. Tako boste Bogu še prav posebno izkazali čast. 8Spomnite se, da je Jezus Kristus prišel na ta svet, da bi svojemu ljudstvu Izraelu pokazal, kako zvesto drži Bog svoje obljube, ki jih je dal Abrahamu, Izaku in Jakobu. Na ta način je Kristus služil svojemu ljudstvu. ▼▼V izvirniku: Kristus je postal služabnik obreze.
9Toda prav tako kot naj bi Judje častili Boga zaradi njegove zvestobe, naj bi se mu ostala ljudstva zahvalila za njegovo usmiljenje. Že v psalmu beremo: “Med pogani bom slavil tvoje ime in te častil.” ▼▼Psalm 18,50.
10In na drugem mestu pravi: “Veselite se vsa poganska ljudstva skupaj z njegovim ljudstvom Izraelom!” ▼▼5. Mojzesova 32,43.
11In zopet beremo drugje v psalmu: “Slavite Gospoda, pogani! Vsa ljudstva naj ga slavijo!” ▼▼Psalm 117,1.
12Izaija pa je prerokoval: “Jesejeva korenina bo pognala, vstal bo nekdo, ki bo zavladal nad poganskimi ljudstvi. Vanj bodo upali pogani.” ▼▼Izaija 11,10.
13Zato prosim za vse vas, ki niste Judje, da bi vas Bog, ki nam je dal to upanje, napolnil v vaši veri z radostjo in mirom, da bi se vaše upanje po moči Svetega Duha bolj in bolj krepilo. Pavel opisuje svojo nalogo
14Dragi bratje! Trdno sem prepričan, da ne potrebujete mojih opominov, ker sami veste, kaj vse vam je Bog podaril in kaj od vas pričakuje. Zato se lahko medsebojno opominjate in si pomagate v krščanskem življenju. 15Kljub vsemu sem si vzel svobodo, da vas spomnim na nekatere stvari. To sem storil zato, ker me je Bog pooblastil, 16da kot služabnik Jezusa Kristusa oznanim radostno novico vsem ljudem. Kot služi duhovnik v templju Bogu in mu žrtvuje, tako gledam jaz na svojo nalogo. Po svetem Duhu naj bi bila žrtev vseh narodov posvečena in prijetna Bogu. 17Pred Bogom sem ponosen na vse, kar je Jezus Kristus storil skozi mene. 18Ne upam si soditi, kako uspešno je uporabljal druge, vem pa tole: mene je uporabil, da bi pridobil pogane za Boga. 19Pridobil sem vas z znamenji in čudeži in z močjo Svetega Duha. Na ta način sem oznanjal Kristusa in veselo sporočilo vse od Jeruzalema do pokrajine Ilirije. 20Moj cilj je bil ves čas, potovati dalje in oznanjevati tam, kjer ljudje še nikoli niso slišali o Jezusovem imenu, namesto da bi obiskoval kraje, kjer je že nekdo drug osnoval cerkev. 21Ravnal sem se po navodilih Svetega pisma, kjer Izaija pravi:“Videli ga bodo tisti, katerim ga še nihče ni oznanil
in kateri še nikoli poprej niso o njem slišali,
ga bodo spoznali.” ▼

Načrti za potovanja
22Ker sem bil s tem tako zaposlen, doslej še nisem bil pri vas. 23Zdaj pa sem svoje delo tukaj dokončal in kot sem si že mnogo let želel, bi zdaj rad prišel k vam. 24V načrtu imam, da bi potoval v Španijo in upam, da bom ob tej priložnosti tudi vas v Rimu osebno spoznal. Ko bomo nekaj časa prebili skupaj in bom nabral novih moči, me boste morda lahko spremljali na moji poti dalje. 25Prav zdaj sem na poti v Jeruzalem, da bi pomagal tamkajšnji cerkvi. ▼▼V izvirniku: služit svetim.
26Kristjani v Makedoniji in Ahaji so namreč za siromašne v cerkvi v Jeruzalemu zbrali denar. 27To so storili z veseljem, kajti prav tej cerkvi mnogo dolgujejo oni, ki so bili prej pogani. Kajti če so bili oni deležni duhovnih dobrin, ki so prišle od Judov, so zdaj oni dolžni deliti svoje materialne dobrine z Judi, ki so se znašli v stiski. 28Takoj ko bom opravil to nalogo in dokončal to njihovo dobro delo, lahko na poti v Španijo pridem k vam. 29Vem, da vam bom ob tej priložnosti lahko prinesel bogat Božji blagoslov. 30Dragi bratje, ker Jezus Kristus tako hoče in ker smo v ljubezni Svetega Duha povezani med seboj, vas prosim: pomagajte mi v moji borbi tako, da molite zame. 31Prosite Boga, da me varuje tistih v Judeji, ki me zaradi Jezusa preganjajo. Molite tudi za to, da bi kristjani v Jeruzalemu hvaležno sprejeli dar v denarju. 32Šele potem se lahko z veselim srcem podam k vam, da bi se – če Bog tako hoče – med seboj spodbujali. 33Mir bodi z vami vsemi. Amen.
