Konec Babilona
1Potem sem videl, kako je prišel drugi angel z neba. Imel je posebno moč in od njegove svetlobe je sijala vsa zemlja. 2Z mogočnim glasom je zakričal:“Padla je prostitutka – Babilon, veliko mesto!
Da, padla je!
Samo še demoni živijo v Babilonu.
Tam domujejo vsi hudobni in nečisti duhovi
in mrhovinarji iščejo plen. ▼

3Kako je z vinom nemorale opila vsa ljudstva!
Nikakor se niso mogli nasititi!
Tudi vladarji tega sveta so prešuštvovali z njo, ▼
▼V izvirniku: Kajti od vina srda njene nečistosti so pili vsi narodi in kralji zemeljski so nečistovali z njo.
trgovcem pa je njeno razsipno življenje
prinašalo obilo bogastva.”
4Potem pa sem zaslišal drug glas z neba, ki je zaklical:
“Odidi iz tega mesta, ljudstvo moje,
da ne boš sodelovalo v njenih grehih
in da te ne bi zadela njena kazen!
5Njen greh je namreč tako neizmerno velik,
da sega do neba.
Bog ni pozabil nobenega izmed njenih sramotnih dejanj.
6Vrnite ji vse hudo, kar vam je storila!
Še več, vrnite ji z dvojno mero!
V čašo vina, ki vam ga je dala piti,
ji natočite dvakrat toliko!
7Tako kot je nekoč živela v razkošju in v uživanju,
naj zdaj trpi bolečine in muke.
Na tihem si še vedno misli:
‘Kraljica sem in še naprej bom vladala,
nisem nemočna vdova;
nikoli se ne bom znašla v stiski ali v žalosti.’
8Vendar bo v enem dnevu vse to prišlo nadnjo:
lakota, žalost in smrt.
Zgorela bo v ognju.
Kajti Bog, Gospod, ki bo obračunal z njo,
je močan in mogočen.
9Le kdo jo bo objokoval, kdo bo žaloval nad njenim koncem? Vsi mogočniki, vladarji te zemlje, ki so tekali za njo in z njo živeli v grehu, bodo žalovali in tožili, ko bodo videli, da se dviga dim iz gorečega mesta. 10Trepetali bodo od strahu in od daleč vse to gledali ter glasno kričali:
‘Gorje! Gorje, o, veliko mesto!
O, Babilon! Ti veliko, mogočno mesto!
V hipu te je zadela sodba!’
11Tudi trgovci te zemlje jokajo in žalujejo, ker nihče več ne kupuje njihovega blaga: 12zlata in srebra, dragih kamnov in biserov, lanenega platna, najdragocenejšega blaga, svile in škrlata; dragocenega lesa, slonokoščenih posod, dragocenih rezljanih predmetov, bakra, železa in marmorja; 13začimb, dišečih mazil in kadila, vina in olivnega olja, najboljše moke in pšenice, goveda in ovac, konjev in voz, da, celo živih ljudi. 14Tudi sadja, ki si ga tako ljubila, ni več. Ves sijaj in slava so izginili. Nikoli več se to bogastvo ne povrne. 15Trgovci, ki so s trgovanjem z Babilonom obogateli, bodo vse to od daleč gledali, ker se bodo tudi sami bali muk, ki so prišle nad to mesto. Jokajoč in stokajoč bodo vpili:
16‘Gorje! Gorje, o, veliko mesto!
Kje so vsi tvoji zakladi, dragoceno platno,
škrlatnordeče blago?
Sijalo si v zlatem sijaju, okrašeno si bilo z zlatom,
z dragim kamenjem in z biseri!
17Toda v hipu je bilo vse uničeno,
porušeno in izgubljeno!’
Od daleč bodo gledali tudi kapitani in krmarji skupaj s posadkami svojih ladij, kar se tam dogaja. 18Ko bodo videli dim, ki se dviga iz gorečega mesta, bodo vpili: ‘Kateremu mestu na svetu bi se moglo to mesto primerjati?’ 19V žalosti si bodo potresali glave s pepelom in glasno jokajoč tožili:
‘Gorje! Gorje, o, veliko mesto!
Tvoje bogastvo je prinašalo bogastvo našim ladjam.
Zdaj pa je v eni uri prišel konec vsemu!’
20Ti, nebo, pa se veseli zaradi tega!
Veselite se vsi, ki zaupate Bogu!
Veselite se apostoli in preroki!
Bog jo je končno kaznoval za vse krivice,
ki ste jih morali pretrpeti.” ▼

21Potem je mogočen angel dvignil velik kamen, ki je bil kot mlinski kamen. Tega je vrgel v morje in zaklical:
“Tako kot ta kamen se bo pogreznilo tudi mesto Babilon.
Nič ne bo ostalo od njega.
22Nikoli več ne bo iz njega donela glasba:
več ne bo slišati harfe, niti godal,
niti flavt ali trobent.
Nikoli več ne bo noben obrtnik delal v tem mestu
in hrup tovarn bo umolknil. ▼

23Vse luči se bodo za vedno ugasnile
in veselih svatovskih gostij ne bo nikoli več.
Tvoji trgovci so bili najsposobnejši
in so gospodovali zemlji.
S svojimi čari si zapeljevala vse narode.
24Kriva si smrti prerokov
in ljudi, ki so bili pobožni.
Da, ti si kriva smrti vseh ljudi,
ki so bili pomorjeni na zemlji.”

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
