2Želiva vam milost in mir od Boga, našega Očeta in našega Gospoda Jezusa Kristusa. Molim za vas
3Zahvaljujem se mojemu Bogu za vas, vsakokrat ko mislim na vas! 4Kadar molim za vas, izpolnjuje moje srce neizmerna radost, 5ker ste od tistega trenutka, ko ste prvič slišali veselo sporočilo o Kristusu, pa vse do danes, pomagali širiti to novico. 6Zato sem prepričan, da bo Bog to dobro delo, ki ga je po veri začel v vas, tudi dokončal, do tistega dne, ko se Gospod Jezus vrne.7To, kar čutim do vas, je povsem naravno, saj ste mi prav posebno pri srcu. Delili smo Božje blagoslove, bodisi, da sem bil v ječi ali pa na svobodi, kadar sem branil resnico in ko sem pripovedoval drugim o Kristusu. ▼

8Samo Bog ve, kako zelo vas ljubim, prav kakor vas Jezus Kristus sam ljubi in kako hrepenim po vseh vas. 9Zato molim, da bi se vaša ljubezen ojačala in poglobila, ko bolj in bolj spoznavate Božjo voljo in se ravnate po njej. ▼

10Želim namreč, da bi jasno videli razliko med tem, kaj je prav in kaj ni ter da bi v vsem imeli čisto vest. Nikomur ne dajajte vzroka za spotiko in kritiko, da boste čisti in brez graje, ko se vrne Jezus Kristus. 11Naj vam ne primanjkuje dobrih dejanj, polnih ljubezni. Ona naj krasijo vaša življenja. To pa bo prineslo slavo in hvalo Gospodu. Vsak naj izve, kdo je Kristus!
12Ljubljeni bratje! Vesel sem, da vam lahko povem, da je vse, kar se tukaj dogaja z menoj, doprineslo, da se veselo sporočilo o Kristusu širi. 13Vsi, ki so tukaj, vedo, – vključno z vojaki, ki me stražijo – da sem zaprt zaradi tega, ker verujem v Kristusa. 14Poleg tega pa so mnogi kristjani postali pogumnejši in jih več ni strah ječe. Izgleda, kot da bolj pogumno pripovedujejo drugim o Kristusu prav zaradi mojih vezi.15Mnogi sicer oznanjujejo sporočilo o Kristusu samo zaradi zavisti, ker mi ne privoščijo, da me Bog uspešno uporablja v svoji službi. Radi bi bili sami tisti, ki bi sloveli kot neustrašeni pridigarji. Drugi pa imajo pri tem bolj čiste motive. 16Radostno novico oznanjajo, ker me ljubijo in vedo, da me je Gospod privedel sem in mi dal nalogo, da branim resnico. 17Ti prvi, ki sem jih omenil, govorijo o Jezusu Kristusu, ker mi hočejo dokazati, da znajo bolje. To ni pošteno, še posebej ne, ker mislijo, da bo njihov uspeh pomnožil moje skrbi v ječi. 18Naj bodo motivi taki ali drugačni, vendar mnogi oznanjujejo veselo sporočilo o Kristusu in tega se nadvse veselim.
Za Kristusa želim živeti
19Jaz pa se bom še naprej radoval, ker vem, da se bo tukaj zaradi vaših molitev in pomoči Duha Jezusa Kristusa vse končalo z mojo osvoboditvijo. ▼▼V izvirniku: posluži v rešitev (Job 13,16).
20Moja največja želja in moje upanje je, da ne bom storil ničesar takega, zaradi česar bi se moral sramovati samega sebe, temveč da bom ves ta težki čas v ujetništvu pripravljen brez strahu pripovedovati o Kristusu, kot sem to vedno tudi delal. Prav tako upam, da bom Kristusu v čast, bodisi da ostanem živ, ali da umrem. 21Če ostanem živ, imam več priložnosti, da mu še služim, če pa umrem – da, to je dejansko še bolje! 22Lahko pridobim še več ljudi za Kristusa, če bom še živel. Zato res ne vem, kaj naj si želim: da ostanem pri življenju, ali da umrem. 23Oboje se mi zdi privlačno: Včasih pa bi najraje že zdaj umrl in bil pri Kristusu. Ali je sploh kaj boljšega od tega? 24Po drugi strani pa vem, da moram med vami opraviti še zelo pomembno nalogo. 25Da, še sem potreben tukaj na zemlji, zato sem prepričan, da bom nekaj časa še ostal ter vam bom v pomoč, da bo vaša vera rasla in se bo vaša radost pomnožila. 26Ko pa se bom vrnil k vam, boste imeli še več vzroka častiti Kristusa in se mu zahvaljevati za vse, kar je storil. Trpeti za Kristusa je prednost
27Karkoli se že zgodi z menoj, si zapomnite, da je prav, da živite tako, kot se spodobi kristjanom. V primeru da bom prišel k vam, ali pa bom le slišal o vas, želim izvedeti le eno: da si prizadevate vsi skupaj imeti en cilj, in sicer, da širite radostno sporočilo. ▼▼V izvirniku: da stojite trdno v enem duhu, enodušno in skupno se boreč za vero evangelija.
28Ne prestrašite se vaših nasprotnikov. Vaša neustrašenost jim bo namreč v dokaz, da so oni na poti v pogubo, za vas pa bo jasen znak, da je Bog z vami in da vam bo dal večno življenje. 29Vi imate namreč to prednost, da tudi trpite za Kristusa, ne samo, da verujete vanj. 30Torej je moja borba tudi vaša borba. Že v preteklosti ste videli, kako sem trpel zanj in kot veste, se nahajam tudi zdaj sredi težke bitke.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
