Jezus ozdravi slepega
1Spotoma je Jezus videl moža, ki je bil slep od rojstva. 2“Gospod,” so ga vprašali učenci, “kdo je kriv temu, da je ta človek slep? Ali je to njegova krivica ali morda greh njegovih staršev?” 3“Ni kriv niti sam, niti njegovi starši,” je odgovoril Jezus. “Slep je, da bi se na njem pokazala Božja moč. 4Opravljati moram nalogo, ki mi jo je dal Oče, dokler je še dan. Kmalu bo prišla noč, ko nihče več ne bo mogel ničesar storiti. 5Toda dokler sem jaz na svetu, sem luč temu svetu.” 6Pljunil je na zemljo, zmešal je blato in z njim namazal slepcu oči. 7Potem mu je dejal: “Pojdi zdaj k vrelcu Siloa in se tam umij.” (Siloa pomeni: “Poslan”). Slepi je odšel tja, se umil in ko se je vrnil, je videl.8Njegovi sosedje in drugi ljudje, ki so ga poznali kot slepega berača, so začudeni spraševali: “Ali ni to tisti človek, ki je posedal ob cesti in prosjačil?” 9Nekateri so menili: “Vsekakor je!” Drugi pa so trdili: “To ni mogoče! Samo zelo mu je podoben.” – “Ta človek sem jaz,” je mož sam potrdil. 10Potem so ga vprašali: “Kako lahko zdaj naenkrat vidiš?” 11Pripovedoval je: “Neki človek, ime mu je Jezus, mi je z blatom namazal oči: Potem me je poslal k vrelcu Siloa. Tam naj bi se umil. Tako sem tudi storil. Zdaj vidim!” 12“Kje pa je zdaj ta Jezus?” so še dalje spraševali. “Ne vem,” jim je odgovoril.
Farizeji ga zaslišujejo
13Slepega moža, ki je zdaj videl, so pripeljali k farizejem. 14Bila je ravno sobota, ko je Jezus naredil blato in ozdravil slepega. 15Farizeji so ga podrobno spraševali, kako se je zgodilo, da zdaj vidi. Mož je pripovedoval: “Jezus mi je z blatom namazal oči. Potem sem se umil in zdaj vidim.” 16“Ta človek ne prihaja od Boga,” so menili nekateri farizeji, “ker dela v soboto.” Drugi pa so ugovarjali: “Kako bi grešen človek mogel storiti kaj takega?” Tako so se začeli prepirati. 17Potem so farizeji znova vprašali moža, ki je bil slep: “On ti je torej dal vid? Kaj misliš ti? Kdo je ta človek?” – “Gotovo je kak prerok, ki ga je Bog poslal,” je odgovoril. 18Judje pa niso hoteli verjeti, da je bil ta človek sploh kdaj slep. Zato so privedli njegove starše, 19da bi jih zaslišali: “Ali je ta vaš sin? Ali drži, da se je rodil slep? Kako pa je mogoče, da zdaj vidi?” 20Starši so odgovorili: “Da, to je naš sin, ki se je slep rodil. To vemo zagotovo. 21Kako pa se je zgodilo, da zdaj vidi, tega ne vemo. Tudi tega ne vemo, kdo ga je ozdravil. Toda vprašajte njega samega! Dovolj je star in sam lahko pove.” 22Starši so se bali judovskih voditeljev, zato so jim odgovorili tako. Ti so namreč sklenili, da bodo vsakega izključili iz sinagoge, ki bo priznal, da je Jezus Mesija. 23Zato so starši dejali: “Dovolj je star. Njega vprašajte.”24Farizeji so znova zaslišali ozdravljenega in so mu dejali: “Bogu daj čast in ne Jezusu, ki je brezbožen in grešen človek.” 25“Če je dober človek ali ni, ne vem,” je odgovoril mož. “Vem samo to: Bil sem slep, zdaj pa vidim!” 26“Kaj pa ti je storil? Kako te je ozdravil?” so znova poskušali izvedeti.
27Jezen je mož odgovoril: “Saj sem vam že povedal! Ali me niste poslušali? Ali bi radi postali njegovi učenci?” 28Potem so ga ozmerjali in kričali: “Ti si njegov učenec. Mi smo Mojzesovi učenci. 29Za Mojzesa vemo, da mu je Bog govoril. Za tega človeka pa ne vemo od kod je prišel.” 30“To je pa res čudno!” je odvrnil mož. “Slepemu lahko da vid, vi pa ga ne poznate? 31Vsak otrok ve, da Bog ne sliši molitev grešnikov, temveč tistih, ki živijo po njegovi volji. 32Odkar stoji svet, še nihče ni človeku, ki se je slep rodil, dal vida. 33Če ga ne bi poslal Bog, tega gotovo ne bi mogel storiti.” 34Jezni so kričali nanj: “Kaj? Ti, grešnik ▼

35Jezus je slišal, da so ozdravljenega izključili iz judovske sinagoge. Ko ga je spet srečal, ga je vprašal: “Ali veruješ v Sina človekovega?” 36“Da, rad bi veroval vanj! Vendar ga ne poznam,” je odgovoril ozdravljeni. 37“Že si ga videl in zdaj govoriš z njim!” mu je rekel Jezus. 38“Da, Gospod,” je zdaj zaklical mož, “verujem,” in se vrgel na tla pred Jezusa. 39“Prišel sem na ta svet, da bi dal vid tem, ki so slepi ter da bi pokazal onim, ki si domišljajo, da vidijo, da temu ni tako,” je rekel Jezus. 40Nekaj farizejev je stalo v bližini in ti so ga vprašali: “Ali naj to pomeni, da smo mi slepi?” 41Jezus je odgovoril: “Če bi bili dejansko slepi, ne bi bili krivi. Ker pa pravite, da vidite, vaša krivda ostaja.”
