1Vreau să spun că, atât timp cât moștenitorul este copil, nu este diferit cu nimic de un sclav, cu toate că este stăpânul tuturor lucrurilor, 2ci se află sub îngrijirea tutorilor și a administratorilor până la timpul hotărât de tatăl său. 3Astfel, și noi, când eram copii, ne aflam sub sclavia principiilor ▼▼În greacă este folosit termenul stoicheion, care poate însemna lucru elementar, învățătură fundamentală, chiar literele alfabetului, elementele fundamentale pe care este clădită lumea, principiile fundamentale ale matematicii. În cazul de față, Pavel se referă la Lege ca învățătură fundamentală, alfabet al harului. Pentru cei care proveneau din cultura greacă, ar fi putut să fie o aluzie la înrobirea acestora față de zeitățile care reprezentau stihiile necontrolate ale naturii.

8Atunci când voi nu-L cunoșteați pe Dumnezeu erați sclavii celor ce, prin natura lor, nu sunt dumnezei. 9Însă acum, după ce ați ajuns să-L cunoașteți pe Dumnezeu sau mai degrabă să fiți cunoscuți de Dumnezeu, cum de vă întoarceți iarăși la acele principii slabe și sărăcăcioase, cărora vreți să le fiți din nou sclavi? 10Voi țineți zile, luni, anotimpuri și ani. 11Mi-e teamă ca nu cumva să fi depus efort pentru voi degeaba.12Fraților, vă rog insistent, fiți ca mine, pentru că și eu sunt ca voi! Nu mi-ați făcut nicio nedreptate. 13Știți că din cauza unei neputințe în trup v-am vestit Evanghelia prima oară. 14Și n-ați disprețuit, nici nu v-a fost scârbă de ceea ce era o ispită pentru voi în trupul meu, ci m-ați primit ca pe un înger al lui Dumnezeu, ca pe Cristos Isus. 15Așadar, unde este acea fericire a voastră? Căci vă mărturisesc că, dacă ar fi fost posibil, v-ați fi scos până și ochii ▼
▼Aluzie la o boală cronică pe care ar fi avut-o apostolul. Se pare că suferea de o afecțiune la ochi. Unii teologi atribuie acestei boli rolul de „țepuș în carne“pentru care apostolul s-a rugat să îi fie îndepărtat.
și mi i-ați fi dat! 16Acum, pentru că v-am spus adevărul, am devenit oare dușmanul vostru? 17Ei sunt plini de zel față de voi, dar nu pentru un scop bun, ci vor să vă despartă de noi, ca să fiți plini de zel pentru ei. 18Este bine să fie plini de zel pentru un scop bun întotdeauna, nu doar când sunt eu prezent la voi. 19Copiii mei, pentru care sufăr din nou durerile nașterii până când Cristos va lua chip în voi, 20aș vrea să fiu cu voi acum și să-mi schimb tonul vocii, pentru că sunt nedumerit cu privire la voi!

21Spuneți-mi voi, care doriți să fiți sub Lege, nu auziți ce spune Legea? 22Este scris că Avraam a avut doi fii: unul dintr-o sclavă, iar unul dintr-o femeie liberă. 23Cel din sclavă a fost născut în mod obișnuit, însă cel din femeia liberă a fost născut prin promisiune.24Aceste lucruri sunt spuse sub forma unei alegorii, căci aceste două femei reprezintă două legăminte. Unul este cel de pe muntele Sinai, născând copii pentru sclavie. Aceasta este Agar. 25Agar este muntele Sinai din Arabia și corespunde Ierusalimului de acum, pentru că este în sclavie cu copiii lui. 26Dar Ierusalimul de sus este liber și el este mama noastră. 27Căci este scris:
„Bucură-te, tu, cea care nu poți rămâne însărcinată;
tu nu naști!
Tresaltă și strigă de bucurie;
tu nu ești în durerile nașterii!
Căci copiii celei părăsite vor fi mai mulți
decât ai celei care are soț“ ▼.
28Voi, fraților, ca și Isaac, sunteți copii ai promisiunii. 29Dar așa cum atunci cel născut în mod obișnuit îl persecuta pe cel născut prin Duhul, la fel este și acum. 30Ce spune însă Scriptura?
„Alung-o pe sclavă și pe fiul ei,
căci fiul sclavei nu va moșteni
împreună cu fiul femeii libere!“ ▼

.31Așadar, fraților, noi nu suntem copiii sclavei, ci ai femeii libere.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
