1Dopiero po czternastu latach powtórnie udałem się do Jerozolimy, tym razem z Barnabą. Zabraliśmy też ze sobą Tytusa. 2Poszedłem tam ze względu na wyraźny nakaz Boga. Będąc na miejscu, przedstawiłem tamtejszym wierzącym dobrą nowinę, którą głoszę poganom. Wcześniej jednak spotkałem się z ich przywódcami, nie chciałem bowiem, aby moja wcześniejsza lub obecna praca poszła na marne. 3Ostatecznie uznano, że Tytus, który przybył ze mną, nie musi poddawać się obrzędowi obrzezania, chociaż był z pochodzenia poganinem.Kontrowersje dotyczące żydowskich nakazów
4Kwestia ta w ogóle nie zostałaby poruszona, gdyby nie kilku ludzi, którzy podszyli się pod wierzących. Wślizgnęli się oni na nasze spotkanie, aby zobaczyć, jak korzystamy z wolności, którą otrzymaliśmy od Jezusa Chrystusa. Chcieli bowiem nakłonić nas do przestrzegania nakazów judaizmu. 5W niczym jednak nie ustąpiliśmy im. Chcieliśmy bowiem zachować dla was prawdę dobrej nowiny.6Wspomniani wcześniej przywódcy z Jerozolimy nie nałożyli na nas żadnych dodatkowych obowiązków. A trzeba dodać, że cieszą się oni ogromnym autorytetem. Jednak dla mnie pozycja człowieka ani jego przeszłość nie jest istotna—Bóg przecież traktuje wszystkich ludzi jednakowo.
7Nie nałożono więc na nas dodatkowych ciężarów, a wręcz przeciwnie! Przywódcy ci stwierdzili, że podobnie jak Piotrowi powierzono głoszenie dobrej nowiny wśród Żydów, tak mi powierzono głoszenie jej wśród pogan. 8A sprawcą tego wszystkiego jest Bóg, który najpierw posłał Piotra—do Żydów, a potem mnie—do pogan. 9Tak więc Jakub, Piotr i Jan, uważani za filary kościoła, potwierdzili, że Bóg zlecił mi tę szczególną misję. Dlatego podali mi i Barnabie dłoń na znak jedności. Odtąd my nadal mieliśmy głosić dobrą nowinę wśród pogan, a oni—wśród Żydów. 10Przypomnieli nam jedynie o potrzebie pomocy biednym, starałem się więc pamiętać o tym w mojej służbie.
Paweł przeciwstawia się Piotrowi
11Gdy jednak Piotr odwiedził pewnego dnia Antiochię, otwarcie mu się sprzeciwiłem, ponieważ na to zasłużył. 12Spożywał bowiem posiłek razem z wierzącymi pochodzenia pogańskiego, ale gdy nagle przybyli żydowscy wierzący, przysłani przez Jakuba, Piotr przerwał posiłek i odsunął się od nich. Bał się bowiem, że żydowscy wierzący zobaczą, że—jedząc z poganami—łamie Prawo Mojżesza. Przybysze uważali je bowiem za wiążące. 13Widząc to, inni wierzący Żydzi, zastani przy tym posiłku, zaczęli naśladować obłudę Piotra, tak że w końcu dał się w to wciągnąć nawet Barnaba.14Stwierdziwszy, że nie postępują zgodnie z prawdą dobrej nowiny, powiedziałem Piotrowi przy wszystkich: „Jesteś Żydem, ale będąc wśród pogan nie przestrzegasz żydowskich praw. Jak więc możesz narzucać je poganom? 15Od urodzenia jesteśmy Żydami, a nie poganami, którzy nie przestrzegają Prawa Mojżesza. 16Wiemy jednak, że Bóg uniewinnia nie tych, którzy przestrzegają Prawa, ale tych, którzy wierzą Jezusowi Chrystusowi. Dlatego uwierzyliśmy Mu, pragnąc zostać uniewinnieni przez Boga. Nie mogliśmy bowiem osiągnąć tego dzięki przestrzeganiu Prawa. Na tej podstawie bowiem nikt nigdy nie zostanie uniewinniony ze swoich grzechów.
17Dlatego właśnie zabiegaliśmy o uniewinnienie dzięki Chrystusowi. W ten sposób przyznaliśmy, że my również jesteśmy grzesznikami i potrzebujemy ratunku. Czy to jednak znaczy, że Chrystus nakłonił nas do grzechu? Absolutnie nie! 18To ja sam czynię siebie przestępcą, na nowo stawiając coś, co wcześniej zburzyłem. 19Ale to właśnie dzięki Prawu przestałem istnieć dla Prawa, a żyję dla Boga. Razem z Chrystusem zostałem bowiem przybity do krzyża. 20Sam nie kieruję już swoim życiem, lecz Chrystus żyje we mnie i prowadzi mnie. Teraz żyję bowiem wierząc Synowi Bożemu, który ukochał mnie i oddał za mnie życie. 21I nigdy nie zrezygnuję z łaski Boga! Jeśli ktoś twierdzi, że dzięki przestrzeganiu Prawa można zostać uniewinnionym przez Boga, to w takim razie po co umarł Chrystus?”.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
