2Ren, volk van Benjamin, ren voor uw leven! Vlucht weg uit Jeruzalem! Sla alarm in Tekoa en geef een rooksignaal vanaf Bet-Hakkerem! Waarschuw iedereen dat er een sterk leger vanuit het noorden onderweg is om dit land te verwoesten! 3Jeruzalem, u bent mooi en kwetsbaar, hulpeloos als een meisje, maar u bent ten dode opgeschreven. 4Als herders zullen de legers u omringen. Zij zullen hun kamp rond uw stad opslaan en uw weiden verdelen voor hun kudden. 5Kijk eens hoe zij zich rond het middaguur klaarmaken voor de strijd. De schaduwen van de avond overvallen hen echter al gauw en het wordt te laat voor de strijd. 6‘Vooruit,’ zeggen zij, ‘laten we dan maar vannacht aanvallen en haar paleizen verwoesten!’ 7Want de Here van de hemelse legers heeft tegen hen gezegd: ‘Hak haar bomen om en gebruik die om een wal op te werpen tegen de muren van Jeruzalem. Dit is de stad die moet worden gestraft, want zij is vol onderdrukking. 8Het kwaad spuit uit haar op als water uit een fontein! In haar straten weerklinken de geluiden van het geweld, haar ziekte en wonden staan Mij dag en nacht voor ogen. 9U bent gewaarschuwd, Jeruzalem. Als u niet luistert, zal Ik u in de steek laten en uw land tot een onbewoonbaar gebied maken. 10Want zoals een druivenplukker elke wijnstok nog eens goed bekijkt of hij nog druiven heeft laten zitten, zo moet u het restant van mijn volk gaan onderzoeken,’ zegt de Here van de hemelse legers tegen Jeremia. 11Daarop antwoordt Jeremia: ‘Maar wie zal luisteren als ik hen waarschuw? Hun oren zitten dicht, zij kunnen niet luisteren. Aan het woord van de Here hebben zij een hekel, zij willen er niets mee te maken hebben. 12Vanwege dit alles ben ik vol van de toorn van de Here. Ik ben te moe om me nog langer in te houden. Ik zal het uitgieten over Jeruzalem, zelfs over de spelende kinderen in de straten, over de bijeenkomsten van jonge mannen, over echtparen en bejaarden. 13Hun vijanden zullen in hun huizen wonen en hun velden en vrouwen in bezit nemen. Want Ik zal het volk van dit land straffen,’ heeft de Here gezegd. 14Allemaal zijn ze uit op hun eigen voordeel, van de laagste tot de hoogste! Ja, zelfs onder profeten en priesters zijn er bedriegers! 15U kunt een wond niet genezen door te doen alsof hij er niet is! Toch verzekeren de priesters en profeten de mensen dat het vrede is. 16Schaamde mijn volk zich toen het afgoden aanbad? Nee, ze weten niet eens meer wat schaamte is. Daarom zal mijn volk tussen de gesneuvelden neervallen en sterven onder mijn toorn. 17Toch blijft de Here tegen u zeggen: ‘Vraag waar de goede weg is, de vertrouwde paden die u lang geleden bewandelde. Als u die volgt, zult u rust vinden voor uw ziel. Maar u antwoordt: “Nee, die weg willen wij niet gaan!” 18Ik stelde wachtposten over u aan die u waarschuwden: “Luister naar het trompetgeschal. Dat is het teken dat er moeilijkheden op komst zijn.” Maar u zei: “Nee, wij luisteren niet!” 19 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse Jer. 6:19.

Dan is dit mijn besluit tegen mijn volk: luister ernaar, verre landen, luister, heel de aarde, naar wat er met mijn volk gaat gebeuren! Ik zal rampen over de mensen brengen, het zal het gevolg zijn van hun eigen zonde, omdat zij niet naar Mij willen luisteren. Zij wijzen mijn wet af. 21Wat heb Ik eraan dat u zoet reukwerk uit Seba voor Mij verbrandt! Houd uw exotische parfums maar! Ik kan uw offers niet aannemen, de geur ervan kan Ik niet waarderen! 22Ik zal daarom hindernissen op de weg van mijn volk leggen. Vaders en zonen zullen erover struikelen, buren en vrienden zullen gezamenlijk ten val komen.’

It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
