Ik ben van U afgedwaald, maar ik heb berouw, ik heb mijn fouten erkend. Ik schaam mij diep voor wat ik in mijn jeugd heb misdaan.” ’ 1De Here antwoordt: ‘Israël is nog steeds mijn zoon, mijn liefste kind. Ik moest hem vaak straffen, maar Ik houd nog steeds van hem. Ik verlang naar hem en zal hem zeker helpen.’ 2Als u in ballingschap wordt weggevoerd, zet dan tekens langs de weg die in de richting van Israël wijzen. Markeer uw weg goed. Want u zult weer terugkeren naar uw steden, Israël. 3Hoelang zult u nog aarzelen, afvallige dochter? Want de Here zal iets nieuws en onbekends laten gebeuren, Israël zal uit zichzelf de Here zoeken! 4De Here van de hemelse legers, de God van Israël, zegt: ‘Als Ik hen weer terugbreng, zal men in Juda en haar steden zeggen: “De Here zegene u, centrum van rechtvaardigheid, heilige heuvel!” 5Stedelingen, boeren en herders zullen voor altijd in vrede en blijdschap samenleven. 6Ik zal de vermoeiden rust en de bedroefden blijdschap geven.’ 7Toen werd ik, Jeremia, wakker. Wat genoot ik van zoʼn slaap! 8De Here zegt: ‘Er komt een tijd dat Ik het aantal inwoners en de veestapel hier in Israël enorm zal laten groeien. 9In het verleden heb Ik mijn best gedaan dit volk te verwoesten en uit te roeien, maar nu zal Ik het weer zorgvuldig opbouwen. 10De mensen zullen niet langer het gezegde “kinderen boeten voor de zonden van hun ouders” gebruiken, 11want iedereen zal voor zijn eigen zonden sterven, ieder moet voor zijn eigen zonden boeten. 12Er komt een dag,’ zegt de Here, ‘dat Ik een nieuw verbond met de mensen van Juda en Israël zal sluiten. 13Het zal niet hetzelfde verbond zijn dat Ik met hun voorouders sloot toen Ik die uit Egypte leidde. Dat verbond hebben zij toen verbroken, hoewel Ik voor hen zorgde als een man voor zijn vrouw. 14Maar dit is het nieuwe verbond dat Ik dan met hen zal sluiten: Ik zal mijn wetten in hun harten graveren, zodat zij Mij willen eren, dan zal Ik werkelijk hun God zijn en zij zullen mijn volk zijn. 15Dan hoeven zij elkaar niet meer te vertellen dat het goed is de Here te kennen, want iedereen, klein en groot, zal Mij dan werkelijk kennen,’ zegt de Here, ‘Ik zal hun zonden vergeven en voor altijd vergeten.’ 16Dit zegt de Here, die ons overdag het zonlicht en ʼs nachts het licht van maan en sterren geeft, die de zee opzweept zodat de golven beginnen te bulderen en wiens naam is Here van de hemelse legers: 17‘Net zomin als Ik van plan ben deze natuurwetten te veranderen, zo zal Ik ook mijn volk Israël niet verstoten! 18Net zomin als de hemelen kunnen worden gemeten en de fundamenten van de aarde kunnen worden gepeild, zo zal Ik er nooit over denken hen voor altijd te verstoten vanwege hun zonden! 19 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse Jer. 31:39.

Want er komt een tijd,’ zegt de Here, ‘dat heel Jeruzalem voor de Here zal zijn herbouwd. Vanaf de toren van Chananel in het noordoosten van de stad tot aan de Hoekpoort in het noordwesten, en vanaf de Garebheuvel in het zuidwesten tot Goa in het zuidoosten. 21De hele stad en het dal waar de doden begraven worden, zullen heilig zijn voor de Here, evenals de velden die zich uitstrekken tot aan de Kidronbeek en vervolgens naar de Paardenpoort aan de oostkant van de stad. Deze stad zal nooit meer worden ingenomen of verwoest.’ 22 Jeremia koopt grond in Anatot
23De volgende boodschap kreeg Jeremia van de Here in het tiende regeringsjaar van koning Sedekia van Juda. Dit jaar was tevens het achttiende regeringsjaar van koning Nebukadnessar. 24Op dat moment zat Jeremia gevangen in het gebouw van de paleiswacht, een bijgebouw van het paleis, terwijl de stad werd belegerd door het Babylonische leger. 25Koning Sedekia had hem laten opsluiten, omdat hij bleef profeteren dat de stad door de koning van Babel zou worden ingenomen 26en dat koning Sedekia als gevangene voor de koning van Babel zou moeten verschijnen om berecht en veroordeeld te worden.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
