Jeremiah 18
Wie zal medelijden met u hebben, Jeruzalem? Wie zal om u rouwen? Wie zal zelfs maar de moeite nemen naar u te vragen? 1U hebt Mij verlaten en tegen Mij gezondigd. Daarom zal Ik u met eigen handen vernietigen. Ik heb er genoeg van u steeds weer een nieuwe kans te geven. 2Ik zal u bij de poorten van uw steden uitzeven en u alles ontnemen waarvan u houdt. Ik zal mijn volk vernietigen, omdat het weigert naar Mij terug te keren. 3Er zullen talloze weduwen zijn, in de middag zal Ik jonge mannen laten kennismaken met de dood en hun moeders zullen weten wat verdriet is. Ik zal plotseling angst en verschrikkingen op hen afsturen. 4Een moeder van zeven kinderen zal ziek worden en bezwijken. Haar zon zal ondergaan, al is het nog klaarlichte dag. Zij zit daar, kinderloos en onteerd, want al haar kinderen zijn door het zwaard van de vijand gedood.’ 5Toen zei Jeremia: ‘Moeder, wat een vreselijk verdriet, het zou beter geweest zijn als ik bij mijn geboorte was gestorven. Overal waar ik kom, word ik gehaat en uitgescholden. Ik heb niets uitgeleend en ook van niemand iets geleend, en toch vervloekt iedereen mij. 6Here, U weet hoe ik tot U voor hen heb gesmeekt, hoe ik ondanks de ellende bij U heb aangedrongen deze vijanden van mij te sparen.’ 7 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse Jer. 15:13.

Toen zei de Here: ‘Kan men ijzer uit het noorden of koperen staven breken? De koppigheid van deze mensen kan net zomin gebroken worden. O mijn volk, vanwege al uw zonden zal Ik uw rijkdommen en schatten als buit aan uw vijand geven. 9Ik zal ervoor zorgen dat uw vijanden u als slaven meenemen naar een land waar u nog nooit bent geweest. Want mijn toorn brandt als een vuur dat u zal verteren.’ 10Toen zei Jeremia: ‘Here, U weet dat ik ter wille van U lijd. Zij vervolgen mij, omdat ik uw woorden aan hen heb doorgegeven. U hebt zoveel geduld, laat mij nog niet sterven! Breng mij in veiligheid en geef ze hun verdiende loon! 11Uw woorden maakten mij blij, gretig hoorde ik ze aan, zij waren als voedsel voor mijn hongerige ziel. Zij gaven mijn treurige hart weer uitbundige blijdschap. Ik hield de mensen geen gezelschap tijdens hun vrolijke feesten. Ik was eenzaam door uw toedoen. Hun zonden maakten mij woedend. Toch was U er niet toen ik U nodig had! U hebt ze hun gang laten gaan. Zullen zij nooit ophouden mij pijn te doen? Uw hulp is net zo wisselvallig als een bergbeek, soms stroomt er water door, soms staat hij helemaal droog.’ 14De Here antwoordde: ‘Als u tot Mij terugkeert, laat Ik u terugkeren. Als u verstandige taal spreekt en u niet laat verlokken tot grootspraak, zal het zijn of Ik het Zelf ben wanneer u spreekt. Let erop dat zij tot u terugkeren: u mag u niet zelf tot hen wenden. 15Zij zullen tegen u strijden als een leger dat een hoge stadsmuur bestormt. Maar zij zullen het niet winnen, want Ik ben bij u om u te beschermen en te bevrijden. 16Ik zal u zeker bevrijden van deze slechte mensen en u redden uit hun wrede handen.’ 17 Droevige dagen voorzegd

Want zowel de kinderen die in deze stad geboren zijn, als hun ouders zullen aan ongeneeslijke ziekten sterven. Niemand zal om hen treuren of hen begraven, hun lijken zullen als mest op de grond blijven liggen. Zij zullen sterven door oorlog en hongersnood en hun lichamen zullen als aas dienen voor gieren en wilde dieren. 22Ga niet naar hun begrafenissen. Treur of huil niet om hen en ga ook niet condoleren, want Ik heb mijn bescherming en vrede van hen weggenomen, mijn liefdevolle zorg en genade teruggetrokken. 23Groot en klein zullen in dit land sterven, onbegraven en niet betreurd. Hun vrienden zullen zich als teken van rouw niet snijden of hun hoofdhaar afscheren als teken van rouw.

It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
