Elk van de vier cherubs had een wiel naast zich. Een wervelwiel, zoals ik hoorde dat het werd genoemd. Het was een wiel, met daarin kruiselings een ander wiel. Deze wielen zagen eruit als glanzend turkoois. Alle vier hadden ze dezelfde vorm en in elk wiel bevond zich een ander wiel. Wanneer zij bewogen, gingen ze in de richting waarin de cherubs keken en daarbij draaiden ze niet rond. Ook de cherubs gingen alleen in de richting waarin hun gezicht keek en weken daarvan niet af. Bovendien zag ik dat hun lichaam—dat wil zeggen: hun rug, handen en vleugels—helemaal bezet was met ogen, net als de velgen van de wielen. 3Ieder van de vier cherubs had vier gezichten, het eerste was dat van een cherub, het tweede dat van een mens, het derde dat van een leeuw en het vierde dat van een arend. 4 ▼▼ This verse is empty because in this translation its contents have been moved to form part of verse Ez. 10:16.

Dit waren dezelfde wezens die ik bij de rivier de Kebar had gezien. Wanneer zij de lucht in gingen, gingen de wielen met hen mee en bleven tijdens hun vlucht naast hen. 6Als de cherubs stilstonden, stonden de wielen ook stil, want een en dezelfde geest leidde de cherubs en de wielen. 7Toen begaf de heerlijkheid van de Here zich van de deur van de tempel naar een plaats boven de cherubs. 8En terwijl ik toekeek, vlogen de cherubs met hun wielen naast zich naar de oostelijke poort van de tempel. De heerlijkheid van de God van Israël bleef boven hen. 9Dit waren dezelfde levende wezens die ik onder de God van Israël had gezien bij de rivier de Kebar. Ik wist dat het de cherubs waren. 10Elk had vier gezichten en vier vleugels, met onder hun vleugels iets dat leek op menselijke handen. 11Hun gezichten leken ook op de gezichten die ik had gezien bij de rivier de Kebar. En ook zij bewogen zich recht vooruit, net zoals die anderen. 12 Israël zal weer worden verzameld uit de landen
13Toen tilde de Geest mij op en bracht mij naar de oostelijke tempelpoort. Daar zag ik vijfentwintig van de meest vooraanstaande mannen uit de stad. Onder hen waren ook de volksleiders Jaäzanja, de zoon van Azzur, en Pelatja, de zoon van Benaja. 14De Geest zei tegen mij: ‘Mensenzoon, dit zijn de mannen die voortdurend onheil stichten en de stad vergiftigen met hun goddeloze adviezen. 15Want zij zeggen tegen de mensen: “Dit is het moment om Jeruzalem weer op te bouwen, want onze stad is als een ijzeren schild dat ons tegen alle gevaar zal beschermen.” 16Profeteer daarom luid en duidelijk tegen hen, mensenzoon.’ 17Toen kwam de Geest van de Here over mij en droeg mij op te zeggen: ‘De Here zegt tegen alle inwoners van Israël: “Ik weet wat u zegt. Ik ken immers al uw gedachten, elk denkbeeld dat in u leeft. 18U hebt eindeloos gemoord en uw straten met lijken gevuld.” 19Daarom zegt de Oppermachtige Here: “Denkt u dat deze stad een ijzeren schild is? Nou, dat is zij niet! Zij zal u niet kunnen beschermen. Uw slachtoffers zullen overal in de stad liggen, maar u zult naar buiten worden gesleept en worden terechtgesteld. 20Ik zal u blootstellen aan de oorlog die u zo lang hebt gevreesd,” zegt de Oppermachtige Here. 21“Ik zal u uit Jeruzalem weghalen en overleveren aan buitenlanders, die mijn vonnis over u zullen voltrekken. 22Overal in het land Israël zult u door het zwaard worden gedood. 23Nee, deze stad zal geen ijzeren schild voor u zijn waarachter u veilig bent. Ik zal u tot aan de grenzen van Israël achtervolgen en u zult weten dat Ik de Here ben,

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
