Christus is in alles de eerste
Van: Paulus, door God aangesteld als apostel van Christus Jezus, en van onze broeder Timotheüs. 1Aan: de broeders en zusters in Kolosse, die trouw en in geloof Christus volgen. Wij wensen u de genade en vrede toe van God, onze Vader. 2Altijd als wij voor u bidden, danken wij God, die de Vader is van onze Here Jezus Christus. 3Want wij hebben gehoord dat u op Christus Jezus vertrouwt en ook uw medegelovigen liefhebt. 4Deze liefde komt voort uit de verwachting die u hebt van de toekomst die u in de hemel wacht. U ziet uit naar die hemelse vreugde sinds u de waarheid, het goede nieuws, gehoord hebt. 5Dit goede nieuws heeft overigens niet alleen u bereikt, het gaat over de hele wereld. Overal worden er mensen door veranderd, net als u vanaf de dag dat u van Gods genade hebt gehoord en deze als waarheid erkend hebt. 6U hebt het gehoord van onze medewerker Epafras die bij ons erg geliefd is, hij is ook een trouw dienaar van Christus. 7Hij heeft ons verteld hoe groot de liefde is die u door de Heilige Geest hebt ontvangen. 8Daarom blijven wij, vanaf de dag dat wij dat hebben gehoord, steeds voor u bidden. Wij vragen God om u te laten begrijpen wat Hij wil dat u doen zult. Wij vragen voor u om wijsheid en geestelijk inzicht. 9Dan zult u tot eer van de Here leven en doen wat Hij graag wil. Hoe beter u God leert kennen, hoe vruchtbaarder uw leven zal zijn. 10Ook vragen wij Hem u te sterken met zijn geweldige, hemelse kracht, opdat u alles blij en geduldig kunt verdragen, 11en wij danken Hem dat Hij u in staat stelt om te delen in de heerlijke erfenis die toebehoort aan zijn volk dat in het licht leeft. 12Want God heeft ons bevrijd uit de macht van de duisternis en ons een plaats gegeven in het Koninkrijk van zijn geliefde Zoon, 13die onze vrijheid kocht met zijn bloed en daardoor ontvingen wij vergeving voor al onze zonden. 14In de persoon van Christus is de onzichtbare God zichtbaar geworden, Hij is als eerstgeborene verheven boven de hele schepping. 15In Christus is alles in de hemelen en op aarde geschapen, al het zichtbare en onzichtbare. Koningen en wereldheersers, regeringen en andere autoriteiten, alles is in Christus gemaakt tot zijn eer. 16Hij was er al voordat er iets bestond en alles wat bestaat, is er dankzij Hem. 17Hij is het hoofd van de gemeente, zijn lichaam. Hij is het begin van alles en ging ons als eerste voor in de opstanding uit de dood. In alles is Hij de eerste. 18Want God had besloten met zijn hele wezen in zijn Zoon te wonen. 19Door zijn Zoon heeft God een altijddurende vrede gesticht tussen Zichzelf en alles wat in de hemelen en op aarde is. Doordat Christus Zich aan het kruis heeft opgeofferd en zijn bloed heeft gegeven, is er verzoening met God. 20Dat geldt ook voor u, die vroeger zo ver van God verwijderd was. U leefde als vijand van Hem, zoals bleek uit de slechte dingen die u dacht en deed. 21Maar nu heeft God Zich met u verzoend, door de dood aan het kruis van zijn aardse lichaam. Zo heeft Christus u heilig en zuiver gemaakt en in de dichte nabijheid van God gebracht. 22De enige voorwaarde is dat u deze waarheid met heel uw hart gelooft en er standvastig in blijft. Dat u sterk bent in de Here en vast overtuigd van het goede nieuws dat Jezus voor u gestorven is. Dit geweldige nieuws gaat de hele wereld door en ik heb mijn leven in dienst ervan gesteld. 23Ik ben blij dat ik nu voor u moet lijden, omdat ik op die manier in mijn lichaam iets mag voelen van het lijden dat Christus ten behoeve van zijn lichaam, de gemeente, heeft geleden. 24God heeft mij immers opgedragen de gemeente te dienen door haar alles over zijn Woord te vertellen. 25Dat heeft God door de eeuwen heen verborgen gehouden, maar nu bekendgemaakt aan hen die Hem liefhebben en voor Hem willen leven. 26Hij wilde dat zij zouden weten wat een rijk en prachtig geheim Hij voor alle volken heeft. Dit is het geheim: dat Christus in u leeft. Hij is uw hoop op Gods heerlijkheid. 27Overal waar wij komen, vertellen wij de mensen over Christus. Wij waarschuwen en onderwijzen hen in alle wijsheid. Wij willen graag ieder mens aan God voorstellen, volmaakt door wat Christus voor hem gedaan heeft. 28Dit is mijn werk. Ik kan dat alleen maar doen doordat ik van Christus de kracht daarvoor krijg. 29

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
