(Mathayo 3:1-12; Marko 1:1-8; Yohana 1:19-28)
1 aKatika mwaka wa kumi na tano wa utawala wa Kaisari Tiberio, Pontio Pilato akiwa mtawala wa Uyahudi, Herode akiwa mfalme wa Galilaya, Filipo ndugu yake akiwa mfalme wa Iturea na nchi ya Trakoniti, na Lisania akiwa mfalme wa Abilene, 2 bnao Anasi na Kayafa wakiwa makuhani wakuu, neno la Mungu likamjia Yohana, mwana wa Zekaria huko jangwani. 3 cAkaenda katika nchi yote kandokando ya Mto Yordani, akihubiri ubatizo wa toba kwa ajili ya msamaha wa dhambi. 4 dKama ilivyoandikwa katika kitabu cha nabii Isaya:“Sauti ya mtu aliaye nyikani,
‘Itengenezeni njia ya Bwana,
yanyoosheni mapito yake.
5Kila bonde litajazwa,
kila mlima na kilima vitashushwa.
Njia zilizopinda zitanyooshwa,
na zilizoparuza zitasawazishwa.
6 eNao watu wote watauona
wokovu wa Mungu.’ ”
7 fYohana akauambia ule umati wa watu uliokuwa unakuja ili kubatizwa naye, “Ninyi watoto wa nyoka! Ni nani aliyewaonya kuikimbia ghadhabu inayokuja? 8 gBasi zaeni matunda yastahiliyo toba. Wala msianze kusema mioyoni mwenu kuwa, ‘Sisi tunaye Abrahamu, baba yetu.’ Kwa maana nawaambia kuwa Mungu anaweza kumwinulia Abrahamu watoto kutoka mawe haya. 9 hHata sasa shoka limeshawekwa tayari kwenye shina la kila mti. Basi kila mti usiozaa matunda mazuri hukatwa na kutupwa motoni.”
10 iUle umati wa watu ukamuuliza, “Inatupasa tufanyeje basi?”
11 jYohana akawaambia, “Aliye na kanzu mbili amgawie asiye nayo, naye aliye na chakula na afanye vivyo hivyo.”
12 kWatoza ushuru nao wakaja ili wabatizwe, wakamuuliza, “Bwana na sisi inatupasa tufanyeje?”
13 lAkawaambia, “Msichukue zaidi ya kiwango mlichopangiwa.”
14 mAskari nao wakamuuliza, “Je, nasi inatupasa tufanye nini?”
Akawaambia, “Msimdhulumu mtu wala msimshtaki mtu kwa uongo, bali mridhike na mishahara yenu.”
15 nWatu walikuwa na matazamio makubwa. Wakawa wanajiuliza mioyoni mwao iwapo Yohana angeweza kuwa ndiye Kristo. ▼
▼Kristo maana yake ni Masiya, yaani Aliyetiwa mafuta.
16 pYohana akawajibu akawaambia, “Mimi nawabatiza kwa maji. ▼▼Tafsiri nyingine zinasema ndani ya maji.
Lakini atakuja aliye na nguvu kuniliko mimi, ambaye sistahili hata kufungua kamba za viatu vyake. Yeye atawabatiza kwa Roho Mtakatifu na kwa moto. 17 rPepeto lake liko mkononi, tayari kusafisha sakafu yake ya kupuria na kuikusanya ngano ghalani, lakini makapi atayateketeza kwa moto usiozimika.” 18Basi, kwa maonyo mengine mengi Yohana aliwasihi na kuwahubiria watu Habari Njema. 19 sLakini Yohana alipomkemea Mfalme Herode kuhusu uhusiano wake na Herodia, mke wa ndugu yake, na maovu mengine aliyokuwa amefanya, 20 tHerode aliongezea jambo hili kwa hayo mengine yote: alimfunga Yohana gerezani.

21 uBaada ya watu wote kubatizwa, Yesu naye akabatizwa. Naye alipokuwa akiomba, mbingu zilifunguka. 22 vRoho Mtakatifu akashuka juu yake kwa umbo kama la hua, nayo sauti kutoka mbinguni ikasema: “Wewe ni Mwanangu mpendwa; nami nimependezwa nawe sana.”Ukoo Wa Bwana Yesu

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
