1Atunci Iosif s-a aruncat pe fața tatălui său, a plâns și l-a sărutat. 2Apoi Iosif le-a poruncit slujitorilor săi doctori să-l îmbălsămeze pe tatăl său, și doctorii l-au îmbălsămat pe Israel. 3După ce s-au împlinit patruzeci de zile – căci acesta era timpul necesar pentru îmbălsămare – egiptenii l-au jelit șaptezeci de zile. 4După ce au trecut zilele de jale, Iosif le-a vorbit celor de la curtea lui Faraon, zicând: „Dacă am găsit bunăvoință înaintea voastră, vă rog să-i vorbiți lui Faraon astfel: 5«Tatăl meu m-a pus să jur, zicând: ‘Iată, eu sunt pe moarte. Să mă înmormântezi în mormântul meu, pe care mi l-am săpat în țara Canaanului’. De aceea, dă-mi voie, te rog, să mă duc acolo ca să-l înmormântez pe tatăl meu, apoi mă voi întoarce»“. 6Faraon a zis: „Du-te și înmormântează-l pe tatăl tău, așa cum te-a pus să juri“.7Iosif s-a dus să-și înmormânteze tatăl, și împreună cu el au mers toți slujitorii lui Faraon, bătrânii palatului lui și toți bătrânii țării Egiptului, 8toată familia lui Iosif, frații săi și familia tatălui său. Au lăsat în regiunea Goșen doar copiii, turmele și cirezile lor. 9Împreună cu el au mers care și călăreți, astfel încât convoiul era foarte mare. 10Când au ajuns la Aria lui Atad, ▼

Iosif a ținut o perioadă de bocet de șapte zile pentru tatăl său. 11Când locuitorii țării, canaaniții, au văzut bocetul din Aria lui Atad, au zis: „Acesta este un mare bocet pentru Egipt“. De aceea acelui loc i s-a pus numele Abel-Mițraim. ▼▼Denumirea Abel-Mițraim înseamnă Bocetul Egiptului.
El se află dincolo de Iordan. 12Astfel, fiii lui Iacov au făcut pentru el așa cum le-a poruncit acesta. 13Fiii săi l-au dus în țara Canaanului și l-au înmormântat în peștera de pe terenul Mahpela, la est de Mamre, pe care Avraam a cumpărat-o cu tot cu teren de la hititul Efron, ca loc de înmormântare. 14După ce l-a înmormântat pe tatăl său, Iosif s-a întors în Egipt, împreună cu frații săi și cu toți cei ce merseseră cu el ca să-și înmormânteze tatăl.
Bunătatea lui Iosif față de frații săi
15Când frații lui Iosif au văzut că tatăl lor murise, au zis: „Dacă cumva Iosif ne va dușmăni și ne va întoarce pe deplin tot răul pe care i l-am făcut?“. 16De aceea au trimis să-i spună lui Iosif: „Tatăl tău a poruncit înainte de moarte, zicând: 17«Așa să-i spuneți lui Iosif: ‘O, iartă, te rog, fărădelegea fraților tăi și păcatul lor, căci ți-au făcut rău!’». Acum, iartă, te rugăm, fărădelegea slujitorilor Dumnezeului tatălui tău!“. Iosif a plâns când i-au spus aceste cuvinte.18Frații lui au venit, s-au plecat înaintea lui și au zis:
‒ Iată, suntem slujitorii tăi.
19Iosif le-a răspuns:
‒ Nu vă temeți, căci sunt eu oare în locul lui Dumnezeu? 20Voi ați plănuit împotriva mea ce este rău, dar Dumnezeu a plănuit aceasta spre bine, ca să țină în viață un popor numeros, așa cum face astăzi. 21Așadar, să nu vă temeți! Eu însumi vă voi asigura hrana, vouă și copiilor voștri.
Apoi i-a mângâiat și le-a vorbit pe placul inimii lor.
Moartea lui Iosif
22Iosif a locuit în Egipt împreună cu familia tatălui său. El a trăit o sută zece ani. 23Iosif i-a văzut pe copiii lui Efraim până la a treia generație, iar copiii lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, au fost născuți pe genunchii săi. ▼24Apoi Iosif le-a zis fraților săi: „Eu sunt pe moarte, dar Dumnezeu va veni sigur la voi și vă va duce din această țară în țara pe care le-a jurat-o lui Avraam, Isaac și Iacov“. 25Iosif i-a pus pe fiii lui Israel să jure, zicând: „Dumnezeu va veni sigur la voi. Să luați atunci osemintele mele de aici“. 26Iosif a murit la vârsta de o sută zece ani. După ce l-au îmbălsămat, l-au pus într-un sicriu, în Egipt.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
