Melkisedek yang agung
1 Melkisedek ini raja Kota Salem dan juga imam Allah Yang Mahatinggi. Ia menemui Abraham, ketika Abraham sedang dalam perjalanan pulang sesudah menang dalam pertempuran melawan banyak raja, lalu Melkisedek memberkati dia. 2Kemudian Abraham mengambil sepersepuluh hasil kemenangannya dan memberikannya kepada Melkisedek.Nama Melkisedek berarti “Raja Keadilan” dan ia juga Raja Salem, yang berarti “Raja Damai”. 3Baik ayah maupun ibunya tidak diketahui, juga leluhurnya. Juga tidak ada keterangan tentang kapan dia dilahirkan atau kapan dia mati. Oleh karena itu boleh dikatakan bahwa hidupnya tanpa awal dan tanpa akhir. Dalam hal ini ia menyerupai Anak Allah dan adalah imam untuk selama-lamanya.
4Lihatlah betapa besar Melkisedek ini:
(a) Meskipun Abraham orang yang pertama dan paling dihormati di antara segenap umat pilihan Allah, ia memberikan kepada Melkisedek sepersepuluh hasil rampasan dari raja-raja yang diperanginya. 5Seandainya Melkisedek seorang imam Yahudi, kita dapat mengerti mengapa Abraham melakukan hal ini, sebab kemudian umat Allah diharuskan menurut hukum untuk memberi persembahan kepada imam-imam mereka, sebab imam-imam itu adalah kerabat mereka. 6Tetapi, walaupun Melkisedek bukan kerabat, Abraham memberikan persepuluhan kepadanya.
(b) Melkisedek memberkati Abraham yang berderajat tinggi, 7dan kita tahu bahwa seseorang yang berkuasa memberkati selalu lebih besar daripada orang yang diberkatinya.
8(c) Imam-imam Yahudi yang menerima persepuluhan dari umatnya, semua mati; Melkisedek, di sisi lain, hidup terus karena tidak ada yang dilaporkan tentang akhir hidupnya.
9(d) Dapatlah dikatakan bahwa Lewi sendiri (nenek moyang semua imam Yahudi, yang menerima persepuluhan), membayar persepuluhan kepada Melkisedek dengan perantaraan Abraham. 10Sebab, walaupun Lewi belum dilahirkan, benih asalnya terdapat dalam tubuh Abraham, ketika Abraham membayar persepuluhan kepada Melkisedek.
11(e) Seandainya imam Yahudi dan hukum-hukum mereka dapat menyelamatkan kita, mengapa Allah harus mengutus Kristus sebagai Imam menurut peraturan Melkisedek, dan bukan seseorang berdasarkan keimaman Harun seperti imam-imam yang lain?

Ketika Allah mengutus seorang imam yang tidak berdasarkan keimaman yang lama, maka hukum-Nya harus mengalami perubahan. Sebagaimana kita maklumi, Kristus bukan keturunan suku Lewi, melainkan keturunan suku Yehuda, yang tidak terpilih untuk jabatan imam; sebab Musa tidak pernah memilih mereka untuk jabatan itu. 15Jadi, dengan mudah dapat kita lihat bahwa cara yang dipakai Allah berubah; sebab Kristus, Imam Besar baru berdasarkan keimaman Melkisedek, 16tidak menjadi imam menurut persyaratan lama, yaitu harus keturunan suku Lewi, melainkan berdasarkan kuasa yang bersumber pada hidup yang kekal. 17Dan Pemazmur menyatakan hal ini ketika berkata tentang Kristus,“Engkaulah imam untuk selama-lamanya, menurut peraturan Melkisedek.”
18Ya, sistem keimaman yang lama, yang didasarkan atas garis keturunan, dibatalkan karena tidak membawa hasil. Sistem itu lemah dan tidak berguna untuk menyelamatkan manusia. 19Sistem itu tidak pernah menjadikan seorang pun sungguh-sungguh benar di hadapan Allah. Tetapi sekarang kita mempunyai pengharapan yang jauh lebih baik. Kristus telah menjadikan kita layak di hadapan Allah, sehingga kita dapat hidup dekat dengan Dia.
20Allah bersumpah, bahwa Kristus menjadi imam untuk selama-lamanya, 21sedangkan mengenai imam-imam lain Ia tidak pernah berkata demikian. Hanya kepada Kristus Ia berfirman,
“Tuhan telah bersumpah dan pendirian-Nya tidak akan berubah.
Engkaulah imam untuk selama-lamanya, menurut peraturan Melkisedek.”
22Karena sumpah Allah, Kristus dapat memberi jaminan bahwa peraturan baru yang lebih baik ini akan selalu berhasil.
23Peraturan lama memerlukan banyak imam, supaya apabila yang tua-tua meninggal, jabatan itu dapat dilanjutkan oleh imam-imam yang menggantikannya.
24Tetapi Yesus hidup untuk selama-lamanya dan Ia tetap menjadi imam, sehingga tidak dibutuhkan imam yang lain. 25Ia dapat menyelamatkan dengan sempurna semua orang yang datang kepada Allah melalui Dia. Karena Ia hidup untuk selama-lamanya, Ia senantiasa hadir di sana untuk mengingatkan Allah bahwa Ia telah menghapuskan dosa mereka dengan darah-Nya.
26Oleh karena itu, memang Dialah Imam Besar yang kita perlukan; karena Ia kudus, tanpa salah, tidak ternoda oleh dosa, tidak dicemarkan oleh orang-orang berdosa. Kepada-Nya telah diberikan tempat yang mulia di surga. 27Ia tidak pernah memerlukan darah binatang yang dipersembahkan setiap hari, seperti yang dilakukan imam-imam lain untuk menutupi dosa mereka sendiri dan kemudian dosa umat Israel; sebab Ia mengakhiri segala pengurbanan, sekali untuk selamanya, ketika Ia mengurbankan diri-Nya sendiri di kayu salib. 28Menurut peraturan lama, bahkan para imam besar pun merupakan orang lemah dan berdosa, yang tidak luput dari kesalahan. Tetapi kemudian, dengan sumpah Allah mengangkat Anak-Nya sebagai Imam Besar yang sempurna sampai selama-lamanya.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
