Jesus Foretells His Death and Resurrection
31 aAnd he began to teach them that bthe Son of Man must csuffer many things and dbe rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes and be killed, and eafter three days rise again. 32And he said this fplainly. And Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. 33But turning and seeing his disciples, he rebuked Peter and said, g“Get behind me, Satan! For you hare not setting your mind on the things of God, but on the things of man.” 34And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him ideny himself and jtake up his cross and follow me. 35For kwhoever would save his life ▼▼The same Greek word can mean either soul or life, depending on the context; twice in this verse and once in verse 36 and once in verse 37
will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake mand the gospel’s will save it. 36 nFor what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? 37For owhat can a man give in return for his soul? 38For pwhoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this qadulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed rwhen he comes in the glory of his Father with sthe holy angels.” Mark 9:1
