1 ^aIf then you have been raised with Christ, seek ^bthe things that are above, where Christ is, ^cseated at the right hand of God. 2 ^dSet your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For ^eyou have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4 When Christ ^fwho is your ^{▼▼Some manuscripts our} life ^happears, then you also will appear with him ⁱin glory.

5 ^jPut to death therefore ^kwhat is earthly in you: ^{▼▼Greek therefore your members that are on the earth} ^msexual immorality, impurity, ⁿpassion, evil desire, and covetousness, ^owhich is idolatry. 6 ^pOn account of these the wrath of God is coming. ^{▼▼Some manuscripts add upon the sons of disobedience} 7 ^rIn these you too once walked, when you were living in them. 8 But now ^syou must put them all away: ^tanger, wrath, malice, ^uslander, and obscene talk from your mouth. 9 ^vDo not lie to one another, seeing that ^wyou have put off ^xthe old self ^{▼▼Greek man; also as supplied in verse 10} with its practices 10 and ^zhave put on ^aathe new self, ^abwhich is being renewed in knowledge ^acafter the image of ^adits creator. 11 ^aeHere there is not Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave, ^{▼▼Greek bondservant} free; but Christ is ^agall, and in all.

12 ^ahPut on then, as ^aiGod’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, ^ajcompassionate hearts, ^akkindness, ^alhumility, meekness, and patience, 13 ^ambearing with one another and, ^anif one has a complaint against another, ^aoforgiving each other; ^apas the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on ^aqlove, which ^arbinds everything together in ^asperfect harmony. 15 And let ^atthe peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called ^auin one body. And ^avbe thankful. 16 Let ^awthe word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, ^axsinging psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, ^aywith thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And ^azwhatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, ^bagiving thanks to God the Father through him.

Rules for Christian Households

18 ^bbWives, submit to your husbands, as ^bcis fitting in the Lord. 19 Husbands, love your wives, and ^bddo not be harsh with them. 20 Children, obey your parents ^bein everything, for this pleases the Lord. 21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged. 22 Bondservants, ^{▼▼Or Slaves; also 4:1 (for the contextual rendering of the Greek word doulos, see Preface)} obey ^bgin everything those who are your earthly masters, ^{▼▼Or your masters according to the flesh} not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 ^biWhatever you do, work heartily, ^bjas for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord ^bkyou will receive the inheritance as your reward. ^blYou are serving the Lord Christ. 25 For the wrongdoer will be paid back for the wrong he has done, and there is no partiality.
