Lladd Seba a Tsalmwna, brenhinoedd Midian
1Ond yna dyma ddynion Effraim yn mynd i gwyno wrth Gideon, “Wnest ti ddim ein galw ni i helpu i ymladd yn erbyn y Midianiaid. Pam wnest ti'n diystyru ni fel yna?” Roedden nhw'n dadlau'n ffyrnig gydag e. 2Dyma Gideon yn dweud, “Dw i wedi gwneud dim o'i gymharu â chi. Mae grawnwin gwaelaf Effraim yn well na gorau fy mhobl i. ▼▼8:2 fy mhobl i Hebraeg, “Abieser”.
3Chi wnaeth Duw eu defnyddio i ddal Oreb a Seeb, dau gadfridog Midian. Dydy beth wnes i yn ddim o'i gymharu â hynny.” Pan ddwedodd hynny roedden nhw'n teimlo'n well tuag ato. 4Roedd Gideon a'i dri chant o ddynion wedi croesi'r Afon Iorddonen ac yn dal i fynd ar ôl y Midianiaid, er eu bod nhw wedi blino'n lân. 5Dyma nhw'n cyrraedd Swccoth, a dyma Gideon yn gofyn i arweinwyr y dref, “Mae'r dynion yma sydd gyda mi wedi ymlâdd. Wnewch chi roi bwyd iddyn nhw? Dŷn ni'n ceisio dal Seba a Tsalmwna, brenhinoedd Midian.” 6Ond dyma arweinwyr Swccoth yn ateb, “Pam ddylen ni roi bwyd i chi? Wnewch chi byth lwyddo i ddal Seba a Tsalmwna!” 7Ac meddai Gideon, “Iawn, os mai felly mae hi, pan fydd yr Arglwydd wedi fy helpu i'w dal nhw, bydda i'n gwneud i chi ddiodde go iawn pan ddof i yn ôl.” 8Dyma fe'n mynd ymlaen wedyn a gofyn i arweinwyr Penuel am fwyd. Ond dyma nhw'n ymateb yr un fath ag arweinwyr Swccoth. 9Felly dyma Gideon yn eu bygwth nhw hefyd, a dweud, “Pan ddof i yn ôl ar ôl trechu Midian, bydda i'n bwrw eich tŵr chi i lawr!” 10Roedd Seba a Tsalmwna wedi cyrraedd Carcor, gyda tua un deg pum mil o filwyr oedd wedi llwyddo i ddianc. (Roedd cant dau ddeg o filoedd wedi cael eu lladd!) 11Dyma Gideon a'i ddynion yn mynd ar hyd ffordd y nomadiaid sydd i'r dwyrain o Nobach a Iogbeha, ac yna ymosod ar fyddin Midian yn gwbl ddirybudd. 12Dyma fyddin Midian yn panicio. Ceisiodd Seba a Tsalmwna ddianc ond aeth Gideon ar eu holau a llwyddo i'w dal nhw. 13Pan oedd y frwydr drosodd dyma Gideon yn mynd yn ôl drwy Fwlch Cheres. 14Yno dyma fe'n dal dyn ifanc o Swccoth a dechrau gofyn cwestiynau iddo. Dyma'r dyn ifanc yn ysgrifennu enwau swyddogion ac arweinwyr y dref i gyd iddo – saith deg saith o ddynion i gyd. 15Yna dyma Gideon yn mynd at arweinwyr Swccoth, a dweud, “Edrychwch pwy sydd gen i. Seba a Tsalmwna! Roeddech chi'n gwawdio a dweud, ‘Wnewch chi byth lwyddo i ddal Seba a Tsalmwna. Pam ddylen ni roi bwyd i dy filwyr blinedig di?’” 16Felly dyma fe'n dal arweinwyr y dref, a'u chwipio nhw'n filain i ddysgu gwers iddyn nhw. ▼▼8:16 a'u chwipio … iddyn nhw Hebraeg, “a chymryd drain a mieri'r anialwch, a chwipio arweinwyr Swccoth gyda nhw.”
17Aeth i Penuel wedyn, bwrw eu tŵr i lawr, a dienyddio arweinwyr ▼▼8:17 arweinwyr neu dynion.
y dref honno i gyd. 18Yna gofynnodd i Seba a Tsalmwna, “Dwedwch wrtho i am y dynion wnaethoch chi eu lladd yn Tabor.” A dyma nhw'n ateb, “Dynion digon tebyg i ti. Roedden nhw'n edrych fel petaen nhw'n feibion i frenhinoedd.” 19“Fy mrodyr i oedden nhw,” meddai Gideon. “Wir i chi! Petaech chi wedi gadael iddyn nhw fyw byddwn i'n gadael i chi fyw.” 20Yna dyma Gideon yn dweud wrth Jether, ei fab hynaf, “Tyrd, lladd nhw!” Ond roedd Jether yn rhy ofnus i dynnu ei gleddyf – bachgen ifanc oedd e. 21A dyma Seba a Tsalmwna yn dweud wrth Gideon, “Lladd ni dy hun, os wyt ti'n ddigon o ddyn!” A dyma Gideon yn lladd y ddau ohonyn nhw. Yna dyma fe'n cymryd yr addurniadau brenhinol siap cilgant oedd am yddfau eu camelod. Gideon yn gwneud delw
22Dyma ddynion Israel yn gofyn i Gideon fod yn frenin arnyn nhw. “Bydd yn frenin arnon ni – ti, a dy fab a dy ŵyr ar dy ôl. Rwyt ti wedi'n hachub ni o afael Midian.” 23Ond dyma Gideon yn dweud wrthyn nhw, “Na, fydda i ddim yn frenin arnoch chi, na'm mab i chwaith. Yr Arglwydd ydy'ch brenin chi.” 24Ond yna, meddai wrthyn nhw, “Gallwch wneud un peth i mi. Dw i eisiau i bob un ohonoch chi roi clustdlws i mi o'i siâr o'r pethau gymeroch chi oddi ar y Midianiaid.” (Ismaeliaid oedden nhw, ac roedden nhw i gyd yn gwisgo clustdlysau aur.) 25“Wrth gwrs,” medden nhw. A dyma nhw'n rhoi clogyn ar lawr, a dyma'r dynion i gyd yn taflu'r clustdlysau aur ar y clogyn. 26Roedd y clustdlysau i gyd yn pwyso bron ddau ddeg cilogram, heb sôn am yr addurniadau siâp cilgant, y tlysau crog, y gwisgoedd brenhinol a'r cadwyni oedd am yddfau'r camelod. 27A dyma Gideon yn gwneud delw gydag effod arno a'i osod yn Offra, y dref lle cafodd ei fagu. Ond dyma bobl Israel yn dechrau ei addoli ac roedd hyd yn oed Gideon a'i deulu wedi syrthio i'r trap!Marwolaeth Gideon
28Dyna sut cafodd y Midianiaid eu trechu'n llwyr gan bobl Israel, a wnaethon nhw erioed godi i fod yn rym ar ôl hynny. Roedd heddwch yn y wlad am bedwar deg mlynedd, tra roedd Gideon yn dal yn fyw. 29Aeth Jerwb-baal (sef Gideon), mab Joas, yn ôl adre i fyw. 30Cafodd saith deg o feibion – roedd ganddo lot fawr o wragedd. 31Cafodd fab arall drwy bartner ▼▼8:31 bartner Mae'r gair Hebraeg yn air am feistres neu bartner cyfreithlon oedd ddim yn wraig i ddyn yn ystyr lawnaf y gair.

32Roedd Gideon yn hen iawn pan fuodd e farw. Cafodd ei gladdu ym medd ei dad Joas, yn Offra yr Abiesriaid. 33Ond ar ôl iddo farw dyma pobl Israel yn puteinio, drwy addoli delwau o Baal. Dyma nhw'n gwneud Baal-berith ▼▼8:33 Baal-berith sef, "Baal yr Ymrwymiad".

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
