1Roedd yr Arglwydd wedi gadael y bobloedd yna er mwyn profi pobl Israel (sef y genhedlaeth oedd ddim wedi gorfod brwydro yn erbyn y Canaaneaid eu hunain.) 2Roedd e eisiau i bob cenhedlaeth oedd yn codi yn Israel ddysgu sut i ymladd. 3Dyma'r bobloedd oedd ar ôl: Y Philistiaid a'u pum arweinydd, y Canaaneaid i gyd, y Sidoniaid a'r Hefiaid oedd yn byw yn mynydd-dir Libanus (o Fynydd Baal-hermon i Fwlch Chamath). 4Cafodd y rhain eu gadael i brofi pobl Israel, er mwyn gweld fyddai'r bobl yn ufudd i'r gorchmynion roedd e wedi eu rhoi i'w hynafiaid drwy Moses. 5Roedd pobl Israel wedi setlo i lawr yng nghanol y Canaaneaid, yr Amoriaid, Hethiaid, Peresiaid, Hefiaid a'r Jebwsiaid. 6Roedden nhw'n priodi eu merched, ac yn rhoi eu merched eu hunain i'r Canaaneaid. Ac roedden nhw'n addoli eu duwiau nhw hefyd.Othniel
7Dyma bobl Israel yn gwneud rhywbeth roedd yr Arglwydd yn ei ystyried yn wirioneddol ddrwg. Dyma nhw'n anghofio'r Arglwydd eu Duw ac addoli delwau o Baal a pholion y dduwies Ashera. 8Roedd yr Arglwydd yn wirioneddol flin gyda phobl Israel! Dyma fe'n gadael i Cwshan-rishathaim, brenin Mesopotamia, ▼▼3:8 Hebraeg, Aram-naharaim
eu rheoli nhw. Roedden nhw'n gaethion i Cwshan-rishathaim am wyth mlynedd. 9Dyma bobl Israel yn gweiddi ar yr Arglwydd am help, a dyma fe'n codi rhywun i'w hachub nhw – Othniel, mab Cenas (brawd iau Caleb). 10Dyma Ysbryd yr Arglwydd yn dod arno, a dyma fe'n arwain Israel i frwydro yn erbyn Cwshan-rishathaim. A dyma Othniel yn ennill y frwydr. 11Ar ôl hynny roedd heddwch yn y wlad am bedwar deg mlynedd, nes i Othniel, mab Cenas, farw. Ehwd
12Dyma bobl Israel unwaith eto yn gwneud beth oedd yn ddrwg yng ngolwg yr Arglwydd. Felly, o achos hyn, dyma'r Arglwydd yn gadael i Eglon, brenin Moab, reoli Israel. 13Roedd Eglon wedi ffurfio cynghrair milwrol gyda'r Ammoniaid a'r Amaleciaid i ymosod ar Israel. Dyma nhw'n ennill y frwydr ac yn dal Jericho ▼▼3:13 Jericho Hebraeg, “Tref y Coed Palmwydd”, enw arall ar Jericho.
14Buodd pobl Israel yn gaethion i'r brenin Eglon am un deg wyth mlynedd. 15Dyma bobl Israel yn gweiddi ar yr Arglwydd am help, a dyma fe'n codi rhywun i'w hachub nhw. Ei enw oedd Ehwd, mab Gera o lwyth Benjamin. Roedd yn ddyn llaw chwith. Roedd Ehwd i fod i fynd â trethi pobl Israel i Eglon, brenin Moab. 16Ond cyn mynd dyma Ehwd yn gwneud cleddyf iddo'i hun. Roedd y cleddyf tua 45 centimetr o hyd, gyda min ar ddwy ochr y llafn. Dyma fe'n strapio'r cleddyf ar ei ochr dde o dan ei ddillad. 17Yna dyma fe'n mynd â'r arian trethi i Eglon. Roedd Eglon yn ddyn tew iawn. 18Ar ôl cyflwyno'r trethi i'r brenin, dyma Ehwd a'r dynion oedd wedi cario'r arian yn troi am adre. 19Ond pan ddaethon nhw at y delwau cerrig yn Gilgal, dyma Ehwd yn troi yn ei ôl. A dyma fe'n dweud wrth y brenin Eglon, “Mae gen i neges gyfrinachol i'w rhannu gyda chi, eich mawrhydi.” “Ust! Aros eiliad,” meddai Eglon. Yna dyma fe'n anfon ei weision i gyd allan. 20Felly roedd yn eistedd ar ei ben ei hun yn yr ystafell uchaf – ystafell agored braf. Dyma Ehwd yn mynd draw ato, a dweud, “Mae gen i neges i chi gan Dduw!” Pan gododd y brenin ar ei draed, 21dyma Ehwd yn tynnu ei gleddyf allan gyda'i law chwith, a'i wthio i stumog Eglon. 22Aeth mor ddwfn nes i'r carn fynd ar ôl y llafn, a diflannu yn ei floneg. Allai Ehwd ddim tynnu'r cleddyf allan. 23Yna dyma fe'n cloi drysau'r ystafell, a dianc trwy ddringo i lawr y twll carthion o'r tŷ bach. 24Pan ddaeth gweision y brenin yn ôl a darganfod fod y drysau wedi eu cloi, roedden nhw'n meddwl, “Mae'n rhaid ei fod e yn y tŷ bach.” 25Ond ar ôl aros ac aros am amser hir, dyma nhw'n dechrau teimlo'n anesmwyth am ei fod e'n dal heb agor y drysau. Felly dyma nhw'n nôl allwedd ac agor y drysau. A dyna lle roedd eu meistr, yn gorwedd yn farw ar lawr! 26Erbyn hynny roedd Ehwd wedi hen ddianc. Roedd wedi mynd heibio'r delwau cerrig, ac ar y ffordd i Seira. 27Pan gyrhaeddodd Seira dyma fe'n chwythu'r corn hwrdd ar fryniau Effraim, i alw byddin at ei gilydd. A dyma ddynion Effraim yn mynd yn ôl i lawr gydag e o'r bryniau. Ehwd oedd yn eu harwain. 28“Dewch!” meddai, “Mae'r Arglwydd yn mynd i roi buddugoliaeth i chi yn erbyn eich gelynion, y Moabiaid!” Felly aethon nhw ar ei ôl i lawr i ddyffryn Iorddonen, a dal y rhydau lle mae pobl yn croesi drosodd i Moab. Doedden nhw ddim yn gadael i unrhyw un groesi. 29Y diwrnod hwnnw roedden nhw wedi lladd tua deg mil o filwyr gorau Moab – dynion cryfion i gyd. Wnaeth dim un ohonyn nhw ddianc. 30Cafodd byddin Moab eu trechu'n llwyr y diwrnod hwnnw, ac roedd heddwch yn y wlad am wyth deg mlynedd. Shamgar
31Ar ôl Ehwd, yr un nesaf i achub Israel oedd Shamgar, mab Anat. Lladdodd Shamgar chwe chant o Philistiaid gyda ffon brocio ychen.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
