Pechod Achan a'i gosb
1Ond roedd pobl Israel wedi bod yn anufudd, a chymryd rhai pethau oedd i fod i gael eu cadw i'r Arglwydd. Roedd dyn o'r enw Achan wedi cymryd rhai o'r pethau oedd piau'r Arglwydd. (Roedd Achan yn fab i Carmi, ac yn ŵyr i Sabdi fab Serach, o lwyth Jwda.) Ac roedd yr Arglwydd wedi digio gyda phobl Israel. 2Dyma Josua'n anfon dynion o Jericho i ysbïo ar Ai (sydd i'r dwyrain o Bethel, wrth ymyl Beth-afen). 3Pan ddaeth y dynion yn ôl dyma nhw'n dweud wrth Josua, “Paid anfon pawb i ymladd yn erbyn Ai. Bydd rhyw ddwy neu dair mil o ddynion yn hen ddigon. Does dim pwynt trafferthu i anfon y fyddin i gyd. Tref fach ydy Ai.” 4Felly dyma ryw dair mil o ddynion arfog yn mynd, ond dynion Ai wnaeth ennill y frwydr, ac roedd rhaid i ddynion Israel ffoi. 5Aeth dynion Ai ar eu holau yr holl ffordd i lawr o giatiau'r dref i'r chwareli. Cafodd tua tri deg chwech ohonyn nhw eu lladd ar y llethrau. Gwnaeth hyn i bobl Israel golli pob hyder. 6Dyma Josua yn rhwygo ei ddillad, a gorwedd ar ei wyneb ar lawr o flaen Arch yr Arglwydd nes iddi nosi. Roedd arweinwyr Israel yno gydag e, yn taflu pridd ar eu pennau. 7Gweddïodd Josua, “O na! Feistr, Arglwydd! Pam wyt ti wedi dod â'r bobl yma ar draws yr Afon Iorddonen? Ai er mwyn i'r Amoriaid ein dinistrio ni? Pam wnaethon ni ddim bodloni aros yr ochr arall! 8Meistr, beth alla i ei ddweud, ar ôl i Israel orfod ffoi o flaen eu gelynion? 9Pan fydd y Canaaneaid a pawb arall sy'n byw yn y wlad yn clywed beth sydd wedi digwydd, byddan nhw'n troi yn ein herbyn ni a'n dileu ni oddi ar wyneb y ddaear. Be wnei di wedyn i gadw dy enw da?” 10A dyma'r Arglwydd yn ateb Josua, “Cod ar dy draed! Pam wyt ti'n gorwedd ar dy wyneb ar lawr fel yna? 11Mae Israel wedi pechu. Maen nhw wedi torri amodau'r ymrwymiad wnes i gyda nhw! Maen nhw wedi cymryd pethau oedd piau fi – wedi dwyn, a dweud celwydd, a cuddio'r pethau gyda'i stwff nhw'u hunain. 12Dyna pam maen nhw wedi ffoi o flaen eu gelynion – am eu bod nhw'n mynd i gael eu dinistrio! Dw i ddim yn mynd i fod gyda chi o hyn ymlaen, os na wnewch chi ddinistrio'r pethau hynny. 13Dos, a dweud wrth y bobl am fynd trwy'r ddefod o buro eu hunain erbyn yfory. Mae'r Arglwydd, Duw Israel yn dweud, ‘Israel, mae yna bethau gynnoch chi oedd piau fi ac i fod i gael eu dinistrio. Fyddwch chi ddim yn ennill y frwydr yn erbyn eich gelynion nes byddwch chi wedi cael gwared â'r pethau hynny. 14Bore fory, dw i eisiau i chi ddod ymlaen bob yn llwyth. Bydda i'n pigo'r llwyth sy'n euog, a byddan nhw'n dod ymlaen bob yn glan. Yna'r clan bob yn deulu, ac aelodau'r teulu bob yn un. 15Bydd y person sy'n cael ei ddal gyda'r pethau oedd i fod i gael eu cadw i mi, yn cael ei losgi, a'i deulu gydag e. Mae e wedi torri amodau'r ymrwymiad wnaeth yr Arglwydd – peth gwarthus i'w wneud yn Israel!’” 16Felly dyma Josua'n codi'n gynnar y bore wedyn, a gwneud i bobl Israel ddod ymlaen bob yn llwyth. Llwyth Jwda gafodd ei ddewis. 17Yna dyma fe'n gwneud i glaniau Jwda ddod ymlaen yn eu tro. Clan Serach gafodd ei ddewis. Yna cafodd teulu Sabdi ei ddewis o glan Serach. 18A pan ddaeth teulu Sabdi ymlaen bob yn un, dyma Achan yn cael ei ddal. (Sef Achan fab Carmi, ac ŵyr Sabdi fab Serach, o lwyth Jwda.) 19Dyma Josua yn dweud wrth Achan, “Rho glod i'r Arglwydd, Duw Israel, a cyffesu iddo. Dywed beth wnest ti. Paid cadw dim yn ôl.” 20A dyma Achan yn ateb, “Mae'n wir. Dw i wedi pechu yn erbyn yr Arglwydd, Duw Israel. Dyma ddigwyddodd: 21Gwnes i weld mantell hardd o Babilonia, ▼▼7:21 Hebraeg, Shinar sy'n hen enw am wlad Babilon.
dau gant o ddarnau arian, a bar o aur yn pwyso dros hanner cilogram. Ro'n i eisiau nhw, felly dyma fi'n eu cymryd nhw. Maen nhw wedi eu claddu yn y ddaear o dan fy mhabell, gyda'r arian yn y gwaelod.” 22Felly dyma Josua yn anfon dynion i edrych yn y babell. A wir, dyna ble roedd y cwbl wedi ei guddio, gyda'r arian o dan popeth arall. 23Dyma nhw'n cymryd y cwbl o'r babell, a dod ag e at Josua a pobl Israel, a'i osod ar lawr o flaen yr Arglwydd. 24Yna dyma Josua a pobl Israel yn mynd ag Achan fab Serach, gyda'i berthnasau a'i eiddo i gyd, i Ddyffryn Achor. (Aethon nhw a'r arian, y fantell, y bar aur, ei feibion a'i ferched, ei anifeiliaid, ei babell, a phopeth arall oedd piau fe gyda nhw.) 25Meddai Josua yno, “Pam wnest ti ddod â'r drychineb yma arnon ni? Heddiw mae'r Arglwydd yn mynd i ddod â trychineb arnat ti!” A dyma pobl Israel yn taflu cerrig at Achan nes oedd e wedi marw. A dyma nhw'n gwneud yr un peth i'w deulu, ac yna llosgi'r cyrff. 26Yna codi pentwr mawr o gerrig drosto – mae'n dal yna hyd heddiw. Doedd yr Arglwydd ddim wedi gwylltio wedyn. A dyna pam mae'r lle yn cael ei alw yn Ddyffryn Achor ers hynny (sef Dyffryn y Drychineb).

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
