Esther yn cael ei dewis yn frenhines yn lle Fasti
1Beth amser wedyn pan oedd y Brenin Ahasferus wedi dod dros y cwbl, roedd yn meddwl am Fasti a beth wnaeth hi, ac am y gosb gafodd hi. 2A dyma swyddogion y brenin yn dweud, “Dylid chwilio am ferched ifanc hardd i'ch mawrhydi. 3Gellid penodi swyddogion drwy'r taleithiau i gyd i gasglu'r holl ferched ifanc hardd yn y deyrnas at ei gilydd i Shwshan. Wedyn gallai Hegai, yr eunuch ▼▼2:3 eunuch dyn wedi ei ysbaddu (ei bidyn wedi ei dorri i ffwrdd), oedd yn gweithio fel swyddog neu ystafellydd ym mhalas y brenin.

Roedd hi wedi tyfu'n ferch ifanc siapus a hynod o ddeniadol. 8Pan roddodd y brenin Ahasferus y gorchymyn i edrych am ferched hardd iddo, cafodd llawer iawn o ferched ifanc eu cymryd i gaer Shwshan, ac roedd Esther yn un ohonyn nhw. Cafodd hi a'r merched eraill eu cymryd i'r palas brenhinol, a'u rhoi dan ofal Hegai. 9Gwnaeth Esther argraff ar Hegai o'r dechrau. Roedd e'n ei hoffi'n fawr, ac aeth ati ar unwaith i roi coluron iddi a bwyd arbennig, a rhoddodd saith morwyn wedi eu dewis o balas y brenin iddi. Yna rhoddodd yr ystafelloedd gorau yn llety'r harîm iddi hi a'i morynion. 10Doedd Esther wedi dweud dim wrth neb am ei chefndir a'i theulu, am fod Mordecai wedi dweud wrthi am beidio. 11Roedd yn awyddus iawn i wybod sut roedd hi'n dod yn ei blaen, a beth oedd yn digwydd iddi. Felly bob dydd byddai Mordecai'n cerdded yn ôl ac ymlaen wrth ymyl iard y tŷ lle roedd y merched yn byw. 12Aeth blwyddyn gyfan heibio pan oedd y merched yn cael eu paratoi, cyn i'w tro nhw ddod i fynd at y Brenin Ahasferus. Roedd pob un ohonyn nhw yn gorfod mynd trwy driniaethau harddwch gyntaf – chwe mis pan oedd eu croen yn cael ei drin gydag olew olewydd a myrr, a chwe mis pan oedden nhw'n cael persawrau a coluron. 13Dim ond wedyn y byddai merch yn barod i fynd at y brenin, a byddai'n cael gwisgo pa ddillad bynnag fyddai hi'n ei ddewis o lety'r harîm. 14Byddai'n mynd ato gyda'r nos, ac yna'r bore wedyn yn mynd i ran arall o lety'r harîm, lle roedd cariadon ▼▼2:14 cariadon Mae'r gair Hebraeg yn air am feistres neu bartner cyfreithlon oedd ddim yn wraig i ddyn yn ystyr lawnaf y gair.

Roedd pawb welodd hi yn meddwl ei bod hi'n hynod o hardd. 16Felly dyma Esther yn mynd at y Brenin Ahasferus yn ei balas, yn y degfed mis (sef Tebeth ▼▼2:16 Tebeth Degfed mis y calendr Hebreig, o tua canol Rhagfyr i ganol Ionawr.

19Pan oedd y merched ifanc yn cael eu galw at ei gilydd am yr ail waith, roedd Mordecai wedi ei benodi'n swyddog yn y llys brenhinol. 20Doedd Esther yn dal ddim wedi dweud dim am ei theulu a'i chefndir, fel roedd Mordecai wedi ei chynghori. Roedd hi'n dal yn ufuddhau iddo, fel roedd hi wedi gwneud ers pan oedd e'n ei magu hi. 21Bryd hynny, pan oedd Mordecai yn eistedd yn y llys, roedd dau o weision y brenin, Bigthan a Teresh, oedd yn gwarchod drws ystafell y brenin, wedi gwylltio ac yn cynllwynio i ladd y brenin Ahasferus. 22Pan glywodd Mordecai am y cynllwyn, dwedodd am y peth wrth y Frenhines Esther, ac aeth Esther i ddweud wrth y brenin ar ei ran. 23Dyma'r brenin yn cael ei swyddogion i ymchwilio i'r mater, a darganfod ei fod yn wir. Felly cafodd y ddau eu crogi. A dyma bopeth oedd wedi digwydd yn cael ei ysgrifennu o flaen y brenin yn sgrôl Cofnodion yr Ymerodraeth.

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
