Yn Thesalonica
1Dyma nhw'n teithio drwy drefi Amffipolis ac Apolonia a chyrraedd Thesalonica, lle roedd synagog Iddewig. 2Aeth Paul i'r cyfarfodydd yn y synagog yn ôl ei arfer, ac am dri Saboth yn olynol buodd yn trafod yr ysgrifau sanctaidd gyda'r bobl yno. 3Dangosodd iddyn nhw'n glir a phrofi fod rhaid i'r Meseia ddioddef, a dod yn ôl yn fyw ar ôl marw. “Yr Iesu dw i'n sôn amdano ydy'r Meseia,” meddai wrthyn nhw. 4Cafodd rhai o'r Iddewon oedd yno'n gwrando eu perswadio, a dyma nhw'n ymuno â Paul a Silas. Daeth nifer fawr o'r Groegiaid oedd yn addoli Duw i gredu hefyd, a sawl un o wragedd pwysig y dre. 5Ond roedd arweinwyr yr Iddewon yn genfigennus; felly dyma nhw'n casglu criw o ddynion oedd yn loetran yn sgwâr y farchnad a'u cael i ddechrau codi twrw yn y ddinas. Dyma nhw'n mynd i dŷ Jason i chwilio am Paul a Silas er mwyn dod â nhw allan at y dyrfa. 6Ond ar ôl methu dod o hyd iddyn nhw, dyma nhw'n llusgo Jason a rhai o'r Cristnogion eraill o flaen swyddogion y ddinas. Roedden nhw'n gweiddi: “Mae'r dynion sydd wedi bod yn codi twrw ar hyd a lled y byd wedi dod i'n dinas ni, 7ac mae Jason wedi eu croesawu nhw i'w dŷ! Maen nhw'n herio Cesar, trwy ddweud fod brenin arall o'r enw Iesu!” 8Roedd y dyrfa a'r swyddogion wedi cyffroi wrth glywed y cyhuddiadau yma. 9Ond dyma'r swyddogion yn penderfynu rhyddhau Jason a'r lleill ar fechnïaeth.Yn Berea
10Yn syth ar ôl iddi nosi, dyma'r credinwyr yn anfon Paul a Silas i ffwrdd i Berea. Ar ôl cyrraedd yno dyma nhw'n mynd i'r synagog Iddewig. 11Roedd pobl Berea yn fwy agored na'r Thesaloniaid. Roedden nhw'n gwrando'n astud ar neges Paul, ac wedyn yn mynd ati i chwilio'r ysgrifau sanctaidd yn ofalus i weld os oedd y pethau roedd e'n ddweud yn wir. 12Daeth llawer o'r Iddewon i gredu, a nifer o wragedd pwysig o blith y Groegiaid, a dynion hefyd. 13Ond pan glywodd Iddewon Thesalonica fod Paul yn cyhoeddi neges Duw yn Berea, dyma nhw'n mynd yno i greu helynt a chynhyrfu'r dyrfa. 14Dyma'r Cristnogion yno yn penderfynu anfon Paul i'r arfordir ar unwaith, ond arhosodd Silas a Timotheus yn Berea. 15Aeth rhai gyda Paul cyn belled ag Athen, ac yna ei adael a mynd yn ôl i Berea gyda chais ar i Silas a Timotheus fynd ato cyn gynted â roedden nhw'n gallu.Yn Athen
16Tra roedd Paul yn disgwyl amdanyn nhw yn Athen, roedd wedi cynhyrfu'n lân wrth weld cymaint o eilunod oedd yn y ddinas. 17Aeth i'r synagog i geisio rhesymu gyda'r Iddewon a'r Groegiaid oedd yn addoli Duw, ond hefyd i sgwâr y farchnad i geisio rhesymu gyda phwy bynnag oedd yn digwydd bod yno. 18Dechreuodd dadl rhyngddo â grŵp o athronwyr, rhai yn Epicwreaid ac eraill yn Stoiciaid. “Beth mae'r mwydryn yma'n sôn amdano?” meddai rhai ohonyn nhw. “Sôn am ryw dduwiau tramor mae e,” meddai eraill. (Roedden nhw'n dweud hyn am fod Paul yn cyhoeddi'r newyddion da am Iesu a'r atgyfodiad.) 19Felly dyma nhw'n mynd â Paul i gyfarfod o gyngor yr Areopagus. “Dywed beth ydy'r grefydd newydd yma rwyt ti'n sôn amdani,” medden nhw. 20“Mae gen ti ryw syniadau sy'n swnio'n od iawn i ni, a dŷn ni eisiau gwybod beth ydy ystyr y cwbl.” 21(Roedd yr Atheniaid a'r ymwelwyr oedd yn byw yno yn treulio'u hamser hamdden i gyd yn trafod ac yn gwrando pob syniad newydd!) 22Dyma Paul yn sefyll ar ei draed o flaen cyngor yr Areopagus, a'u hannerch fel hyn: “Bobl Athen! Dw i'n gweld tystiolaeth ym mhobman eich bod chi'n bobl grefyddol iawn. 23Dw i wedi bod yn cerdded o gwmpas yn edrych yn ofalus ar yr hyn dych chi'n ei addoli. Yng nghanol y cwbl des i o hyd i un allor oedd â'r geiriau yma wedi eu cerfio arni: I'R DUW ANHYSBYS. Dyma'r Duw dw i'n mynd i ddweud wrthoch chi amdano – yr un dych chi'n ei addoli ond ddim yn ei nabod. 24“Dyma'r Duw wnaeth greu'r byd a phopeth sydd ynddo. Mae'n Arglwydd ar y nefoedd a'r ddaear. Dydy e ddim yn byw mewn temlau sydd wedi eu hadeiladu gan bobl, 25a dydy pobl ddim yn gallu rhoi unrhyw beth iddo – does dim byd sydd arno'i angen! Y Duw yma sy'n rhoi bywyd ac anadl a phopeth arall i bawb. 26Fe ydy'r Duw wnaeth greu y dyn cyntaf, a gwneud ohono yr holl genhedloedd gwahanol sy'n byw drwy'r byd i gyd. Mae'n penderfynu am faint fydd y cenhedloedd yna'n bodoli, a lle'n union mae eu ffiniau daearyddol. 27Gwnaeth hyn i gyd er mwyn iddyn nhw geisio dod o hyd iddo, ac estyn allan a'i gael. A dydy e ddim yn bell oddi wrthon ni mewn gwirionedd. 28‘Dŷn ni'n byw, yn symud ac yn bod ynddo fe,’ ▼▼17:28a dyfyniad o waith Epimenides (bardd o Cnosos ar Ynys Creta – 6ed ganrif CC) (gw. hefyd Titus 1:12, lle mae Paul yn dyfynnu llinell arall o'i waith).

29“Felly, os ydyn ni'n blant Duw, ddylen ni ddim meddwl amdano fel rhyw ddelw o aur neu arian neu faen – sef dim byd ond cerflun wedi ei ddylunio a'i greu gan grefftwr! 30Ydy, mae Duw wedi diystyru'r fath ddwli yn y gorffennol, ond bellach mae'n galw ar bobl ym mhobman i droi ato. 31Mae e wedi dewis diwrnod pan fydd y byd i gyd yn cael ei farnu. Bydd y farn yna'n gwbl deg. Mae wedi dewis dyn i wneud y barnu, ac mae wedi dangos yn glir ei fod yn mynd i wneud hyn drwy ddod â'r dyn hwnnw yn ôl yn fyw ar ôl iddo farw.” 32Pan glywon nhw am y syniad o rywun yn dod yn ôl yn fyw ar ôl marw, dyma rhai ohonyn nhw yn dechrau gwneud sbort, ond meddai rhai eraill, “Fasen ni'n hoffi dy glywed di'n siarad am y pwnc yma rywbryd eto.” 33Felly dyma Paul yn mynd allan o'r cyfarfod. 34Ond roedd rhai wedi credu beth roedd Paul yn ei ddweud a dechrau ei ddilyn. Roedd hyd yn oed un oedd yn aelod o gyngor yr Areopagus, sef Dionysiws; a gwraig o'r enw Damaris, a nifer o bobl eraill hefyd.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
