Joas yn frenin Jwda
(2 Brenhinoedd 12:1-16) 1Roedd Joas yn saith oed pan gafodd ei wneud yn frenin ar Jwda. Bu'n frenin yn Jerwsalem am bedwar deg o flynyddoedd. Enw ei fam oedd Sifia, ac roedd hi'n dod o Beersheba. 2Pan oedd Jehoiada'r offeiriad yn dal yn fyw, gwnaeth Joas beth oedd yn plesio'r Arglwydd. 3Jehoiada wnaeth ddewis dwy wraig iddo, a cafodd y ddwy blant iddo – meibion a merched. 4Dyma Joas yn penderfynu atgyweirio teml yr Arglwydd. 5Galwodd yr offeiriaid a'r Lefiaid at ei gilydd, a dweud wrthyn nhw, “Ewch i drefi Jwda i gyd a casglu'r dreth flynyddol gan bobl Israel, i drwsio teml eich Duw. A gwnewch y peth ar unwaith!” Ond dyma'r Lefiaid yn oedi. 6Felly dyma'r brenin yn galw Jehoiada'r archoffeiriad i fynd i'w weld, a gofyn iddo, “Pam wyt ti ddim wedi cael y Lefiaid i gasglu'r dreth osododd Moses ar bobl Israel tuag at gynnal pabell y dystiolaeth? Roedden nhw i fod i fynd allan drwy Jwda a Jerwsalem yn ei gasglu.” 7(Roedd y wraig ddrwg yna, Athaleia, a'i meibion, wedi torri i mewn i deml Dduw a defnyddio llestri cysegredig teml yr Arglwydd i addoli duwiau Baal!) 8Felly dyma'r brenin yn gorchymyn gwneud cist i'w gosod tu allan i'r giât oedd yn arwain i deml yr Arglwydd. 9Wedyn dyma neges yn cael ei hanfon allan drwy Jwda a Jerwsalem yn gorchymyn i'r bobl ddod i dalu'r dreth oedd Moses, gwas Duw, wedi ei osod ar bobl Israel yn yr anialwch. 10A dyma'r arweinwyr a'r bobl i gyd yn gwneud hynny'n frwd, ac yn taflu'r arian i'r gist nes oedd hi'n llawn. 11Wedyn pan oedd y Lefiaid yn gweld fod y gist yn llawn, roedden nhw'n mynd â hi at swyddogion y brenin. Yna roedd ysgrifennydd y brenin a'r prif-offeiriad yn gwagio'r gist ac yna mynd â hi yn ôl i'w lle. Roedd hyn yn digwydd bob dydd am amser hir, a dyma nhw'n casglu lot fawr o arian. 12Wedyn roedd y brenin a Jehoiada yn rhoi'r arian i'r dynion oedd yn arolygu'r gwaith ar deml yr Arglwydd. 13Roedden nhw'n ei ddefnyddio i gyflogi seiri maen a seiri coed, gweithwyr haearn a chrefftwyr pres i atgyweirio a thrwsio teml yr Arglwydd. 14Pan oedden nhw wedi gorffen eu gwaith, dyma nhw'n mynd â'r arian oedd yn weddill yn ôl i'r brenin a Jehoiada. Cafodd yr arian hwnnw ei ddefnyddio i wneud offer i deml yr Arglwydd – offer ar gyfer y gwasanaethau a'r offrymau i'w llosgi, powlenni arogldarth, a llestri eraill o aur ac arian. Roedd offrymau i'w llosgi yn cael eu cyflwyno'n gyson yn y deml ar hyd y cyfnod pan oedd Jehoiada yn fyw. 15Dyma Jehoiada yn byw i fod yn hen iawn. Bu farw yn gant tri deg oed. 16Cafodd ei gladdu yn ninas Dafydd gyda'r brenhinoedd, am ei fod wedi gwneud cymaint o dda i Israel ar ran Duw a'i deml.Troi cefn ar yr Arglwydd
17Ar ôl i Jehoiada farw, dyma arweinwyr Jwda yn dod i gydnabod y brenin. Ond dyma fe'n gwrando ar eu cyngor nhw, 18troi cefn ar deml yr Arglwydd, Duw eu hynafiaid, a dechrau addoli'r dduwies Ashera a'r delwau. Roedd Duw wedi digio go iawn hefo pobl Jwda a Jerwsalem am iddyn nhw wneud hyn. 19Anfonodd yr Arglwydd broffwydi atyn nhw i'w cael i droi yn ôl ato, ond doedden nhw'n cymryd dim sylw. 20Daeth ysbryd yr Arglwydd ar Sechareia (mab Jehoiada'r offeiriad), a dyma fe'n sefyll o flaen y bobl a cyhoeddi, “Dyma mae Duw'n ddweud. ‘Pam ydych chi'n torri gorchmynion yr Arglwydd? Fyddwch chi ddim yn llwyddo. Am i chi droi cefn ar yr Arglwydd, mae e wedi troi cefn arnoch chi.’” 21Ond dyma nhw'n cynllwynio yn ei erbyn, a dyma'r brenin yn gorchymyn ei ladd trwy daflu cerrig ato yn iard y deml. 22Wnaeth Joas y brenin ddim meddwl mor ffyddlon oedd Jehoiada (tad Sechareia) wedi bod iddo, a dyma fe'n lladd ei fab. Wrth iddo farw, dyma Sechareia'n dweud, “Boed i'r Arglwydd weld hyn a dy ddal di'n gyfrifol.”Diwedd teyrnasiad Joas
23Ar ddiwedd y flwyddyn honno, dyma byddin Syria'n dod i ryfela yn erbyn Joas. Dyma nhw'n ymosod ar Jwda a Jerwsalem ac yn lladd yr arweinwyr i gyd, a dwyn popeth o werth a'i gymryd i frenin Damascus. 24Er mai byddin fechan anfonodd Syria, dyma'r Arglwydd yn rhoi buddugoliaeth iddyn nhw dros fyddin llawer mwy Jwda, am fod pobl Jwda wedi troi cefn ar yr Arglwydd, Duw eu hynafiaid. Cafodd Joas beth roedd e'n ei haeddu. 25Roedd e wedi ei anafu'n ddrwg yn y frwydr, ac ar ôl i fyddin Syria adael dyma weision Joas yn cynllwynio yn ei erbyn am ei fod wedi lladd mab Jehoiada'r offeiriad. Dyma nhw'n ei lofruddio yn ei wely. Cafodd ei gladdu yn Ninas Dafydd, ond ddim ym mynwent y brenhinoedd. 26Y rhai wnaeth gynllwynio yn ei erbyn oedd Safad, mab Shimeath (gwraig o wlad Ammon), a Iehosafad, mab Shimrith (gwraig o Moab). 27Mae hanes ei feibion a'r nifer fawr o negeseuon gan Dduw yn ei erbyn, a'i hanes yn atgyweirio'r deml wedi eu cadw i gyd yn yr ysgrifau yn sgrôl Hanes Brenhinoedd Israel. Daeth ei fab Amaseia yn frenin yn ei le.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
