Dafydd a Jonathan
1Ar ôl siarad â Saul dyma Dafydd yn cyfarfod Jonathan, ei fab, a daeth y ddau yn ffrindiau gorau. Roedd Jonathan yn caru Dafydd fwy na fe ei hun. 2O'r diwrnod hwnnw ymlaen dyma Saul yn cadw Dafydd gydag e, a chafodd e ddim mynd adre at ei dad. 3Roedd Jonathan a Dafydd wedi ymrwymo i fod yn ffyddlon i'w gilydd. Roedd Jonathan yn caru Dafydd fwy na fe ei hun. 4Tynnodd ei fantell a'i rhoi am Dafydd, a'i grys hefyd, a hyd yn oed ei gleddyf, ei fwa a'i felt. 5Roedd Dafydd yn llwyddo beth bynnag roedd Saul yn gofyn iddo'i wneud. Felly dyma Saul yn ei wneud yn gapten ar ei fyddin. Ac roedd hynny'n plesio pawb, gan gynnwys swyddogion Saul.Saul yn eiddigeddus o Dafydd
6Pan aeth y fyddin adre ar ôl i Dafydd ladd y Philistiad, roedd merched pob tref yn dod allan i groesawu'r brenin Saul. Roedden nhw'n canu a dawnsio'n llawen i gyfeiliant offerynnau taro a llinynnol. 7Wrth ddathlu'n frwd roedden nhw'n canu fel hyn: “Mae Saul wedi lladd miloedd,ond Dafydd ddegau o filoedd!”
8Doedd Saul ddim yn hapus o gwbl am y peth. Roedd e wedi gwylltio. “Maen nhw'n rhoi degau o filoedd i Dafydd, a dim ond miloedd i mi,” meddai. “Peth nesa, byddan nhw eisiau ei wneud e'n frenin!” 9Felly o hynny ymlaen roedd Saul yn amheus o Dafydd, ac yn cadw llygad arno. 10Y diwrnod wedyn dyma ysbryd drwg oddi wrth Dduw yn dod ar Saul, a dyma fe'n dechrau ymddwyn fel dyn gwallgo yn y tŷ. Roedd Dafydd wrthi'n canu'r delyn iddo fel arfer. Roedd gwaywffon yn llaw Saul, 11a dyma fe'n taflu'r waywffon at Dafydd. “Mi hoelia i e i'r wal,” meddyliodd. Digwyddodd hyn ddwywaith, ond llwyddodd Dafydd i'w osgoi. 12Roedd y sefyllfa'n codi ofn ar Saul, am fod yr Arglwydd gyda Dafydd, ond wedi ei adael e. 13Felly dyma Saul yn anfon Dafydd i ffwrdd a'i wneud yn gapten ar uned o fil o filwyr. Dafydd oedd yn arwain y fyddin allan i frwydro. 14Roedd yn llwyddo beth bynnag roedd e'n ei wneud, am fod yr Arglwydd gydag e. 15Pan welodd Saul sut roedd e'n llwyddo roedd yn ei ofni e fwy fyth. 16Ond roedd pobl Israel a Jwda i gyd wrth eu boddau gyda Dafydd, am mai fe oedd yn arwain y fyddin.

17Yna dyma Saul yn dweud wrth Dafydd, “Dyma Merab, fy merch hynaf i. Cei di ei phriodi hi os gwnei di ymladd brwydrau'r Arglwydd yn ddewr.” (Syniad Saul oedd, “Fydd dim rhaid i mi ei ladd e, bydd y Philistiaid yn gwneud hynny i mi!”) 18“Pwy ydw i, i gael bod yn fab-yng-nghyfraith i'r brenin?” meddai Dafydd. “Dw i ddim yn dod o deulu digon pwysig.” 19Ond wedyn, pan ddaeth hi'n amser i roi Merab yn wraig i Dafydd, dyma Saul yn ei rhoi hi i Adriel o Mechola. 20Roedd Michal, merch arall Saul, wedi syrthio mewn cariad â Dafydd. Pan glywodd Saul am y peth roedd wrth ei fodd. 21Meddyliodd, “Gwna i ei rhoi hi i Dafydd, a bydd hi fel trap iddo, wedyn bydd e'n cael ei ladd gan y Philistiaid.” Felly dyma fe'n dweud wrth Dafydd am yr ail waith, “Cei di fod yn fab-yng-nghyfraith i mi.” 22Dyma Saul yn cael ei swyddogion i ddweud yn ddistaw bach wrth Dafydd, “Ti'n dipyn o ffefryn gan y brenin, ac yn boblogaidd ymhlith y swyddogion i gyd hefyd. Dylet ti briodi ei ferch e.” 23Pan gawson nhw air yn ei glust, ymateb Dafydd oedd, “Sut ydych chi'n meddwl mae rhywun fel fi'n mynd i allu priodi merch y brenin? Dw i'n rhy dlawd! Dw i ddim digon pwysig!” 24Pan aeth y swyddogion i ddweud wrth Saul beth oedd ymateb Dafydd, 25dyma Saul yn dweud wrthyn nhw, “Dwedwch wrth Dafydd mai'r unig dâl mae'r brenin eisiau am gael priodi ei ferch ydy'r blaengrwyn cant o Philistiaid! ▼▼18:25 blaengrwyn … Philistiaid Doedd y Philistiaid ddim yn ymarfer y ddefod o enwaedu (sef torri'r blaengroen i ffwrdd).
Mae e eisiau dial ar ei elynion.” (Gobaith Saul oedd y byddai Dafydd yn cael ei ladd gan y Philistiaid.) 26Felly dyma'r swyddogion yn mynd i ddweud hyn wrth Dafydd. A cymrodd Dafydd fod hyn yn golygu y gallai briodi merch y brenin. Cyn ei bod yn rhy hwyr 27dyma Dafydd a'i filwyr yn mynd allan ac yn ymosod ar y Philistiaid a lladd dau gant ohonyn nhw. Daeth â'r blaengroen oddi ar bidyn pob un ohonyn nhw, a'u rhoi i'r brenin yn dâl am gael priodi ei ferch. Felly dyma Saul yn gadael iddo briodi Michal ei ferch. 28Roedd hi'n gwbl amlwg i Saul fod yr Arglwydd gyda Dafydd, a bod ei ferch, Michal, yn ei garu. 29Felly roedd yn ofni Dafydd fwy fyth. Dyma Saul yn troi yn hollol erbyn Dafydd am weddill ei fywyd. 30Bob tro y byddai arweinwyr y Philistiaid yn dod allan i ymladd, byddai Dafydd yn fwy llwyddiannus yn eu herbyn nac unrhyw un o arweinwyr eraill byddin Saul. Daeth Dafydd yn enwog iawn.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
