1Does neb yn siŵr ▼▼13:1 Does neb yn siŵr Mae'r rhifau yn yr Hebraeg yn gwneud hon yn un o'r adnodau mwyaf aneglur sydd. Mae cyfieithiadau wedi ceisio datrys y broblem mewn nifer fawr o wahanol ffyrdd.

Felly dyma Saul yn anfon negeswyr i bob rhan o'r wlad i chwythu'r corn hwrdd ▼▼13:3 corn hwrdd Hebraeg, “shoffar”
a galw pobl i ryfel, a dweud, “Chi Hebreaid, gwrandwch yn astud!” 4Yna clywodd pawb yn Israel fod Saul wedi taro garsiwn milwrol y Philistiaid, a bod y Philistiaid yn ffieiddio pobl Israel. Felly dyma'r bobl yn cael eu galw i ymuno â byddin Saul yn Gilgal. 5Yn y cyfamser roedd y Philistiaid yn paratoi i ymosod ar Israel. Roedden nhw wedi casglu tair mil ▼▼13:5 tair mil Rhai hen gyfieithiadau; Hebraeg, “tri deg mil”.
o gerbydau rhyfel, chwe mil o farchogion a gormod o filwyr traed i'w cyfrif, ac wedi codi gwersyll yn Michmas i'r dwyrain o Beth-afen. ▼▼13:5 Beth-afen Roedd y Beth-afen yma lai na milltir i ffwrdd o Michmas, rhwng Michmas a Geba.
6Pan welodd byddin Israel mor ddrwg oedd hi arnyn nhw, dyma nhw'n colli pob hyder a mynd i guddio mewn ogofâu, drysni, yn y creigiau ac mewn pydewau. 7Roedd rhai wedi dianc dros yr Afon Iorddonen i ardal Gad a Gilead. Ond arhosodd Saul yn Gilgal, er fod y fyddin oedd gydag e i gyd wedi dychryn am eu bywydau. Saul yn anufudd a Samuel yn ei geryddu
8Roedd Saul wedi aros am wythnos fel roedd Samuel wedi gofyn iddo wneud. Ond ddaeth Samuel ddim, a dechreuodd y dynion ei adael e. 9Felly dyma Saul yn dweud, “Dewch a'r anifeiliaid sydd i'w haberthu yma – y rhai sydd i'w llosgi a'r rhai sy'n offrwm i ofyn am fendith yr Arglwydd.” A dyma fe'n aberthu i Dduw. 10Roedd e newydd orffen llosgi'r aberth pan ddaeth Samuel i'r golwg. A dyma Saul yn mynd allan i'w gyfarfod a'i gyfarch. 11Ond dyma Samuel yn gofyn iddo, “Be wyt ti wedi ei wneud?” Atebodd Saul, “Roedd y dynion yn dechrau gadael. Doeddet ti ddim wedi dod fel roedden ni wedi trefnu, ac roedd y Philistiaid yn casglu at ei gilydd yn Michmas. 12Roedd gen i ofn y bydden nhw'n ymosod arna i yn Gilgal, a finnau heb ofyn i Dduw am help. Felly doedd gen i ddim dewis ond mynd ati i losgi'r aberth.” 13“Ti wedi gwneud peth gwirion,” meddai Samuel wrtho. “Dylet ti fod wedi gwneud beth ddwedodd yr Arglwydd wrthot ti. Petaet ti wedi bod yn ufudd byddai'r Arglwydd wedi cadw'r olyniaeth frenhinol yn dy deulu di am byth. 14Ond nawr, fydd hynny ddim yn digwydd. Bydd yr Arglwydd yn dod o hyd i ddyn sydd wrth ei fodd, ac yn dewis hwnnw i arwain ei bobl am dy fod ti heb gadw ei orchmynion.” 15Yna dyma Samuel yn gadael Gilgal a mynd i ffwrdd. Aeth Saul a'r milwyr oedd ar ôl ganddo i ymuno gyda'r dynion eraill oedd wedi dod i ryfela. A dyma nhw'n mynd o Gilgal i Gibea yn Benjamin. Pan gyfrodd Saul y dynion oedd ar ôl gydag e, doedd ond chwe chant ohonyn nhw!Y frwydr yn Michmas
16Roedd Saul, Jonathan ei fab a'r dynion oedd gyda nhw yn Gibea yn Benjamin, tra roedd y Philistiaid yn gwersylla yn Michmas. 17Yn sydyn aeth tair mintai allan o wersyll y Philistiaid i ymosod ar wahanol ardaloedd. Aeth un i'r gogledd i gyfeiriad Offra ▼▼13:17 Offra 4 milltir i'r gogledd-ddwyrain o Bethel.

, a'r drydedd i gyfeiriad yr anialwch yn y dwyrain, i'r grib sydd uwchben Dyffryn Seboïm. 19Bryd hynny doedd dim gof i'w gael yn holl wlad Israel. Roedd y Philistiaid eisiau rhwystro'r Hebreaid rhag gwneud cleddyfau a gwaywffyn. 20Felly roedd rhaid i bobl Israel fynd at y Philistiaid i roi min ar swch aradr, hof, bwyell neu gryman. 21Roedd rhaid talu prisiau uchel – 8 gram o arian am hogi swch aradr neu hof, 4 gram o arian am fwyell, a'r un faint am osod pen ar ffon brocio ychen. 22Felly pan ddechreuodd y frwydr doedd gan filwyr Saul a Jonathan ddim cleddyfau na gwaywffyn; dim ond Saul ei hun a'i fab Jonathan oedd â rhai. 23Dyma fyddin y Philistiaid yn symud allan i gyfeiriad bwlch Michmas.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
