1Roedd yna ddyn o'r enw Elcana yn byw yn Rama ▼▼1:1 Rama Hebraeg, “Ramathaim-tsoffîm”, sy'n ffurf hirach ar yr enw (gw. adn.19).
ym mryniau Effraim. Roedd yn perthyn i deulu Swff, un o hen deuluoedd Effraim (Ierocham oedd ei dad, a hwnnw'n fab i Elihw, mab Tochw, mab Swff.) 2Roedd gan Elcana ddwy wraig, Hanna a Penina. Roedd plant gan Penina ond ddim gan Hanna. 3Bob blwyddyn byddai Elcana yn mynd i Seilo ▼▼1:3 Seilo Roedd Seilo bron 20 milltir i'r gogledd o Jerwsalem, a dyna lle roedd y tabernacl ar y pryd (gw. Josua 18:1).
i addoli a cyflwyno aberthau i'r Arglwydd holl-bwerus. Yr offeiriaid yno oedd Hoffni a Phineas, meibion Eli. 4Pan fyddai Elcana yn aberthu byddai'n arfer rhoi cyfran o'r cig bob un i Penina a'i meibion a'i merched i gyd. 5Ond byddai'n rhoi cyfran sbesial i Hanna, am ei fod yn ei charu, er fod Duw wedi ei rhwystro hi rhag cael plant. 6Roedd Penina yn arfer herian Hanna yn arw a'i phryfocio am ei bod yn methu cael plant. 7Yr un peth oedd yn digwydd bob blwyddyn pan oedden nhw'n mynd i gysegr yr Arglwydd. Byddai Penina yn pryfocio Hanna nes ei bod yn crïo ac yn gwrthod bwyta. 8A byddai Elcana yn dweud wrthi, “Hanna, pam wyt ti'n crïo a ddim yn bwyta? Pam wyt ti mor ddigalon? Ydw i ddim yn well na deg mab i ti?” Hanna yn gweddïo am fab
9Un tro, ar ôl iddyn nhw orffen bwyta ac yfed yn Seilo, dyma Hanna'n codi a mynd i weddïo. (Roedd Eli'r offeiriad yn eistedd ar gadair wrth ddrws y deml ar y pryd.) 10Roedd hi'n torri ei chalon ac yn beichio crïo wrth weddïo ar yr Arglwydd. 11A dyma hi'n addo i Dduw, “Arglwydd holl-bwerus, plîs wnei di gymryd sylw ohono i, a peidio troi oddi wrtho i? Os gwnei di roi mab i mi, gwna i ei roi i'r Arglwydd am ei oes, a fydd e byth yn torri ei wallt.” c 12Buodd Hanna'n gweddïo'n hir ar yr Arglwydd, ac roedd Eli wedi sylwi arni. 13Am ei bod hi'n gweddïo'n dawel, roedd e'n gweld ei gwefusau'n symud ond heb glywed dim, felly roedd e'n meddwl ei bod hi wedi meddwi. 14A dwedodd wrthi, “Pam wyt ti'n meddwi fel yma? Rho'r gorau iddi! Sobra!” 15Atebodd Hanna, “Na wir, syr! Dw i mor anhapus. Dw i ddim wedi bod yn yfed o gwbl. Dw i wedi bod yn bwrw fy mol ▼▼1:15 bwrw fy mol Hebraeg, “tywallt fy nghalon” – gw. Salm 62:8
o flaen yr Arglwydd. 16Paid meddwl amdana i fel gwraig ddrwg, da i ddim. Dw i wedi bod yn dweud wrtho mor boenus a thrist dw i'n teimlo.” 17“Dos adre yn dawel dy feddwl,” meddai Eli, “a boed i Dduw Israel roi i ti beth wyt ti eisiau.” 18A dyma hi'n ateb, “Ti mor garedig, syr.” Felly aeth i ffwrdd a dechrau bwyta eto. Roedd yn edrych yn llawer hapusach. 19Bore drannoeth, dyma nhw'n codi ac addoli Duw cyn mynd adre'n ôl i Rama. Dyma Elcana'n cysgu gyda'i wraig, a cofiodd yr Arglwydd ei gweddi. 20Daeth Hanna'n feichiog, a cyn diwedd y flwyddyn roedd wedi cael mab. Galwodd e'n Samuel ▼▼1:20 Samuel sef "Enw Duw". Ond mae'n swnio fel y gair Hebraeg am "gofyn".

21Daeth yn amser i Elcana a'i deulu fynd i Seilo unwaith eto, i aberthu a cyflawni addewid wnaeth e i Dduw. 22Ond aeth Hanna ddim y tro yma. “Dw i ddim am fynd nes bydd y bachgen yn gallu gwneud heb y fron,” meddai wrth ei gŵr. “Gwna i fynd ag e wedyn a'i gyflwyno i'r Arglwydd, a bydd e'n aros yno o hynny ymlaen.” 23Meddai Elcana, “Gwna di beth ti'n feddwl sydd orau. Aros nes bydd y bachgen ddim angen y fron, ond boed i Dduw dy gadw at dy addewid.” Felly arhosodd Hanna adre a magu'r plentyn nes ei fod ddim angen y fron. 24Pan oedd yn ddigon hen, aeth Hanna â'r bachgen i fyny i gysegr yr Arglwydd yn Seilo. Aeth â tarw teirblwydd oed, llond sach ▼▼1:24 llond sach tua deg cilogram
o flawd, a photel groen o win g gyda hi. Aeth â fe i gysegr yr Arglwydd yn Seilo, er mai plentyn ifanc oedd e. 25Wedi iddyn nhw ladd y tarw, dyma nhw'n mynd â'r bachgen at Eli. 26Dyma Hanna yn cyfarch Eli a dweud, “Syr, wir i chi, fi ydy'r wraig oedd yn sefyll yma wrth eich ymyl chi yn gweddïo ar Dduw. 27Am y bachgen yma roeddwn i'n gweddïo, ac mae Duw wedi ateb fy ngweddi! 28Felly dw i'n ei roi e i'r Arglwydd. Dw i'n ei roi e i'r Arglwydd am weddill ei fywyd.” Yna dyma nhw'n addoli'r Arglwydd yno.

How do I do a word study?

When you click on a word, the detailed lexicon opens with:
'Vocabulary' Bibles link the translation to Greek & Hebrew. So far, only some Bibles have this vocabulary feature. They are shown in the Bible select screen with the letter 'V'.
It is the number of occurrences of a word in the Bible. Click on it to see them all in the selected Bible(s).
This reveals different forms for some words and names. These details are often interesting to scholars, eg the word 'beginning' in Genesis.
